21 Celebrities' Real Names You Didn't Know About - Glamour

blogsjga.blogspot.com

It's always fascinating to learn celebrities' real names—in part because there are so many examples of stage name switch-ups. After all, the road to stardom isn’t as simple as moving to Los Angeles, getting an agent, and booking your first job. There are a lot of steps on the way to becoming household name. One of those, for many famous people: selecting a new name to use professionally.

Celebrities changing their birth names has been happening since Hollywood's earliest days. (Case in point: Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jeane Mortenson.) Some celebrities' real names are changed because the star wants a flashier stage name. Others switch for practical reasons, like the fact that another SAG actor is already registered with their name. A few just simply wanted to be called something else. Whatever the reasoning, you'll find some surprising celebrities' real names below.

This Viral TikTok Identifies One of Gossip Girl's Most Iconic Bags - InStyle

Each product we feature has been independently selected and reviewed by our editorial team. If you make a purchase using the links included, we may earn commission.

In the very first scene of “Gossip Girl,” Blake Lively carries an oversized brown leather hobo bag with large gold buckles. It’s what everybody in the world first saw when they were introduced to Serena van der Woodsen, and it’s what the Upper East Side saw when S was spotted for the first time since disappearing for boarding school. The style in “Gossip Girl” has been heavily documented in the years since it originally aired in 2007. It’s arguably one of the most famous television wardrobes of all time, and yet even in 2020, there’s still so much that can be uncovered. Xoxo.

In a viral TikTok, user @juliqnnq was rewatching “Gossip Girl” (as one does in quarantine) and realized that Blake Lively’s bag was the exact same bag she had in her closet but had never used. So she decided to list it on eBay — and then thousands of users flooded her DMs and comment section with questions about the bag. After doing some research and visiting the flagship Coach store in Manhattan to meet with a vintage Coach craftsman, she discovered that it was a rare, collectible vintage piece from Coach’s Hamptons collection from the early 2000s.

With nearly 7 million views on the original video, it’s obvious that “Gossip Girl” fashion is forever, even during the apocalypse. And while the TikToker awaits hearing back from some vintage Coach collectors to decide the fate of her forgotten bag, thousands of commenters don’t see how she could possibly think about selling the very bag Serena wore while confronting Blair Waldorf on the steps of the Met in the emblematic pilot.

While the bag is incredibly rare and a part of television history, Coach does have some similar versions that are available now on Amazon. It’s safe to say that S probably would never use Prime, but that doesn’t mean we can’t pretend. Any of the styles currently available have a similar-enough vibe. Plus, no one has to know exactly whether the bag came from a rare Coach collector or not. It’s not like most of us have a secret “Gossip Girl” bag just laying around in our closet.

Of course, given the video’s popularity, being seen with a similar-enough Serena van der Woodsen-approved Coach bag will make the “Gossip Girl” superfan in your life ask some questions. To which you can just respond in the most “Gossip Girl” way possible: That’s one secret I’ll never tell. And then maybe make a TikTok about it.

Shop Coach bags that look nearly identical to the re-discovered viral “Gossip Girl” favorite below.

When is the Gossip Girl reboot happening? - The Sun

GOSSIP Girl, the drama series starring Blake Lively, is set to return for a 10 episode reboot seven years after the original series.

The series followed the lives of privileged teenagers in New York as they navigate lies and drama.

When is the Gossip Girl reboot happening?

The Gossip Girl reboot was originally was due to become available on HBO Max in the autumn of 2020.

As the pandemic pushed filming schedules back, it will now be ready in 2021 - the exact date isn't yet known.

HBO Max is a new streaming service that launched in May 2020.

Will it star the original cast?

Co-creator Josh Schwartz said in 2019 that the new series wouldn't focus on the old cast - so it's unlikely they'll feature.

New characters will, however, reference Serena, Chuck, Blair and Dan.

Josh said: "We felt that a version with just our cast grown up, regardless of the challenges of getting those actors, didn’t feel like a group of adults controlled by "gossip girl" made much sense.

"We felt there was something interesting that we are all "gossip girl" in our own way and how that’s evolved, morphed and mutated and telling that story through a new generation of Upper East Side high school kids felt right."

The team aren't against the old cast returning to the series in some form, though their appearances haven't be confirmed.

Blake Lively spoke about this possibility, telling E!: "Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it's hard work and I've got my babies, and I don't want to be away from them that much.

"But I've just learned in life you never say never."

Emily Alyn Lind has been confirmed for the rebooted cast

Penn Badgley more savagely told Marie Claire: "I don’t think any of us are interested in that, the creators or the cast," though he has since seemed to give a different impression towards the reboot.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight he said: "It would depend on how and why he's there".

Other core cast have given similar impressions, with Ed Westwick seeming the most hard to sway.

Kristen Bell - the iconic voice of Gossip Girl - will be returning which fans will be pleased to hear, so that's something that won't change.

In terms of new cast, Emily Alyn Lind has been confirmed as a lead role for the show.

She will play a teenager tired of her long-term relationship wanting to explore.

Other confirmed cast haven't had their character descriptions announced yet, but so far here is who you can expect to see feature:

  • Whitney Peak
  • Eli Brown
  • Johnathan Fernandez
  • Jason Gotay
  • Tavi Gevinson (is thought to have a lead role)
  • Thomas Doherty (is thought to have a lead role)
  • Adam Chanler-Berat
  • Zion Moreno
  • Savannah Smith
  • Jordan Alexander
Gossip Girl, a cult teen drama, ran between 2007 and 2012

What will it be about?

According to Deadline, the synopsis is: "Eight years after the original website went dark, a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.

"The prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years."

So the new series will focus on a new set of teens, rather than new actors picking up the characters of Serena and Blair.

The series promises to be more diverse, as writer Joshua Safran has said there will be more "queer content" and "nonwhite" leads.

The reboot will initially be 10 episodes long, each coming in at an hour.

The original series was based on a book series by Cecily von Ziegesar.

'Lovecraft Country's Gossip About Martin Luther King Jr. Is Apparently True - Elite Daily

From the beginning, Lovecraft Country has been telling a very real history of the United States in the midst of all its fantasy. The opening episode not only delved into the reality of Sunset Towns but name-checked Anna, Illinois, one of the most famous of them. Episode 2 was more fantasy-focused, introducing the Braithwhites and Tic's wizard heritage, but it still worked in the shameful history of how slaveowners raped slaves for breeding purposes. In Episode 3, Lovecraft Country's gossip about Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the elements pulled in from reality. But what it referenced might surprise some viewers.

Warning: Spoilers for Lovecraft Country Episode 3 follow. Though Lovecraft Country did not spell out Leti's background, the first two episodes hinted she was connected to the period's burgeoning Civil Rights movement. Living in Washington D.C., the talk of using money to bail out friends — these were pretty good indications the "friends" her siblings didn't approve of or care for were those pushing for equality in the years before the Montgomery Bus Boycott.

Episode 3 confirmed Leti's connection to the movement during the house party scene for her grand reopening of the Winthrop House. As the camera followed Leti wandering through pouring drinks and playing host, viewers stopped in to eavesdrop on a conversation between her activist friends: "You heard about that newcomer preacher who's supposed to jumpstart the movement?"

"Michael, right?" asked one of the men.

"He's going by Martin now," Leti's friend responded.

A skeptical woman interrupted: "I heard he was engaged to a white woman."

Leti's friend shook her head. "Nah, they made him marry a colored one last year."

Bettmann/Bettmann/Getty Images

Martin Luther King Jr. (born Michael King Jr.) would indeed "jumpstart the movement" with the Bus Boycott in 1955. But this talk of his love life wasn't just idle gossip; it's a story pulled from a recent MLK biography, The Seminarian: Martin Luther King Jr. Comes of Age by Patrick Parr, which claimed King was deeply in love with a white woman before he became famous.

In Parr's research of King's history, he came across the first mention of "Betty" in the 1986 King biography relationship, Bearing the Cross. He identified her as Betty Moitz, a white woman, and discovered King himself once referenced his relationship with her in an interview for the 1964 biography, What Matter of Man:

She liked me and I found myself liking her. But finally I had to tell her resolutely that my plans for the future did not include marriage to a white woman.

Parr tracked down and interviewed Moitz, who claimed she and King had been madly in love. In an excerpt from The Seminarian published inPolitico Magazine in 2018, Moitz stated she and King got together in the late 1940s when he was a divinity student at Crozer Theological Seminary. But, she said, their relationship was challenging. This was in Pennsylvania, where miscegenation laws weren't as bad as down South, but it didn't mean there wasn't social fallout.

According to Moitz, it got serious enough that marriage was supposedly in the cards. But many in King's circle disapproved, seeing the relationship as a potential derailment to his career. Ultimately it didn't happen, and King married Coretta Scott in 1953. And that's the (apparent) tea on that.

Lovecraft Country continues on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.

Celebrities gracing the 'green' carpet show Oscar-worthy sustainable dresses can still be glamorous - CNN

blogsjga.blogspot.com

Written by Marianna Cerini, CNN

Just over a decade ago, sustainability in fashion was a fringe issue. But today, it has become a major talking point -- even at important red carpet events, as evidenced by this year's Oscars.

There, Joaquin Phoenix wore the same Stella McCartney tuxedo he had sported at the Golden Globes, Baftas and a number of other award shows this season in a bid to reduce waste. Saoirse Ronan appeared in a Gucci gown with a bodice made using the surplus fabric from her Baftas look. Costume designer Arianne Phillips was in an upcycled version of the Moschino dress she first wore at the 2012 Academy Awards. And that's just to name a few.
Red carpet awareness has been slowly bubbling over the past decade, thanks in part to future-forward initiatives asking celebrities to wear more environmentally-friendly designs at major events. In 2009, climate activist and former actress Suzy Amis Cameron launched the Red Carpet Green Dress (RCGD) campaign, which runs a contest for young and established designers to create garments according to strict sustainability criteria. One year later, Livia Firth, founder of consultancy Eco-Age, followed with her now global Green Carpet Challenge, which not only encourages celebrities to dress sustainably at events, but also works with fashion houses on innovative materials and techniques.

In recent years, celebrities, in collaboration with RCGD or Eco-Age, have turned up in gowns made of recycled materials or dead stock, showing they can make statements about sustainability and look good while doing it. Some of these looks -- as exemplified by Meryl Streep in Lanvin, Viola Davis in Valentino and Emma Watson in Calvin Klein -- showed the possibilities of recycled beverage containers. Watson's trouser-gown hybrid, which she wore to the 2016 Met Gala, was constructed using a yarn made entirely from used plastic bottles.

Getting stars to make greener choices wasn't a straightforward process, according to Samata Pattinson, the CEO of Red Carpet Green Dress. Initially, "it was really difficult to get talent on board with our campaign, because they had a limited view of what it would look like," she said in an email interview.

"They were anxious, they didn't know if it would look good. The assumption was that it would be hemp, something 'granola.'"

But as awareness of fashion's devastating impact on the climate grows, so too does interest from celebrities.

"The red carpet is one of the biggest storytelling platforms there is, and an opportunity to change conversations," said Harriet Vocking, the chief brand officer of Eco-Age, discussing the Green Carpet Challenge in a phone interview. "Wearing a sustainable garment (at award ceremonies) has become a way to lead by example, but also challenge the current fashion system."

To date, Eco-Age has worked with more than 250 celebrities to shine a light on sustainability, although Vocking, like Pattinson, also spoke of having to persuade people at first, "as opposed to now, where we have incoming requests."

Vocking pinpointed Watson's Calvin Klein dress as a pivotal moment for the sustainable red carpet movement. "Watson propelled the dialogue to new heights, because her gown was so well-received by everyone, and showed that the quality is there to make stunning and sustainable dresses," she explained. "It moved the needle on how we see sustainable fashion."

The bigger picture

Of course, there's only so much a red carpet dress can do in terms of tangible change. What's more, award shows themselves have a huge carbon footprint, with large amounts of energy required to stage them, and the waste left to be disposed of in their aftermath. Not to mention the air travel required of stars and their entourages.

The process of dressing celebrities for the red carpet is undeniably wasteful too, with custom-made gowns and jewelry flown over, only to be worn once, feeding into fast-fashion's obsession with newness.

Thandie Newton wore a Vivienne Westwood dress to the 2018 Cannes Film Festival premiere of "Solo: A Star Wars Story." The dress, created in collaboration with Eco-Age, featured hand-painted renderings of the Black characters in the franchise, and was made of organic 'peau de soie' silk and upcycled crystals.

Léa Seydoux's Louis Vuitton dress, worn to the 2020 Oscars, was created in partnership with the Red Carpet Green Dress initiative. The gown incorporated a textile made from Tencel luxe filament yarn, and organic silk faille paired with organic satin sandals.

Neither green carpet initiative has shied away from these inconvenient truths. Rather, they've approached sustainability from different angles.

"In the beginning, we were really looking at certified materials and sustainable design solutions with dyes for example, but (our ethos) has grown to include wider conversations about refurbishing and repurposing, plant-based or vegan materials, and using recycled plastic across circular design systems," Pattinson said. "It's also grown to more visibly include a social justice element -- how we are treating people within this industry and how we treat the people who make our clothes."

Embracing vintage -- a trend harnessed by Penelope Cruz, Margot Robbie and Kim Kardashian West on this year's red carpets -- has become another way of cutting down on carbon emissions. Pattinson pointed to Emma Roberts' vintage Armani Prive dress for the 2017 Academy Awards as an example. "Roberts' gown was important because it showed that, as much as we must look at new ways of making things sustainable, we still have to have a conversation about how there is so much beauty in what's already been made," she said.
Timothée Chalamet's Prada outfit at the 2020 Oscars was made using yarn made from regenerated nylon, created from materials such as ocean plastics, fishing nets and textile fiber waste. A vintage Cartier brooch finished the look.

Similarly, Eco-Age began its #30wears campaign, which invites shoppers to ask themselves whether they'll wear a piece of clothing at least 30 times, encouraging them to consider a garment's lifecycle and promoting a slower approach to fashion.
The consultancy has also challenged its own red carpet event -- the annual Green Fashion Awards, which honors fashion players committed to change in the sector's production chain -- to find other ways to reduce waste. These have included the use of recycled fishing nets for its red carpet, potted flowers that can be later donated or reused, and recycled film sets for its backdrops.

"Raising awareness works," Vocking said. "But for positive impact to be real, every single step of the chain has to be taken into consideration."

Gossip Girl Reboot: Singer Jordan Alexander joins Emily Alyn Lind, Adam Cahnler & more in anticipated spin off - PINKVILLA

Gossip Girl’s highly anticipated reboot will reportedly feature Toronto based singer Jordan Alexader in a lead role, along with Kristen Bell as the voice of GG, lost of ‘queer content’ and ‘nonwhite’ leads according to executive producer Joshua Safran.

HBO Max's Gossip Girl reboot is introducing us to the next generation of Manhattan's elite. Though the start of production was put on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, the series has been dropping a handful of casting announcements. While most of the characters' details are being kept under wraps, actress Emily Alyn Lind will be playing Audrey, a young high schooler who has been in a relationship for a while and according to Vulture is "beginning to wonder what more could be out there." Sounds like the perfect mix of Serena and Blair!

Executive producer Joshua Safran previously teased that the spinoff will feature a more inclusive cast than the original. "There was not a lot of representation the first time around on the show," he told Vulture. "I was the only gay writer I think the entire time I was there. Even when I went to a private school in New York in the '90s, the school didn't necessarily reflect what was on Gossip Girl." He previously said that the show's "leads are nonwhite," and also promised that "there [will be] a lot of queer content" on the show. "It is very much dealing with the way the world looks now, where wealth and privilege come from, and how you handle that."

The cast currently includes names like Jordan Alexander, Emily Alyn Lind, Tavi Gevinson, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Johnathan Fernandez and Jason Gotay as well as Thomas Doherty, Adam Chanler-Berat, Savannah Smith and Zion Moreno.

While there's no word yet on whether the original cast members will make an appearance, Kristen Bell is returning as the voice of Gossip Girl herself. You know you love it! Keep reading to find out who has signed up for the reboot, so far.

blogsjga.blogspot.com

Season one of "Dancing With The Stars" featured only six contestants, yet it was the kind of celebrity line-up that fans have generally expected from the show.

During the first season, there was a boy band member, a supermodel, a "Bachelor" star, a soap opera star, a comic actor, and an athlete.

Season one ran for six weeks from June 1 to July 6, 2005. Scroll on to remember the celebrities who participated in the first season of "DWTS."

I’ve missed this smile. Don’t get me wrong...I know I have a life full of blessings that I shouldn’t take for granted. I wrote a book on the power of gratitude for crying out loud. But, the past 4 months have been a struggle to say the least. Starting with the pain & ongoing debilitation from my first broken bone, to the fear & uncertainty due to a global pandemic, to my failure to cope & be present as a parent, to the financial insecurity from jobs lost because of quarantine, to falling short in home-schooling my kids, to FOMO, to being a single parent & missing my hard-working husband, to comparing myself to younger & more successful women from #bachelornation, to wanting to support the Black Lives Matter movement & feeling the weight of the world as a sensitive soul, to contemplating my future & questioning what I can be when my kids don’t need me anymore...it hasn’t been a time that I’ve done a lot of smiling. The demons have been attacking & I haven’t had the strength or the energy to put up much of a fight. Mental health issues are in my genes & when I’m stressed or scared or overwhelmed (or all three!), my motivation hits the floor & I can’t seem to pick myself up and keep fighting for happiness, let alone get out of bed. Thankfully, I feel the cloud lifting. With our community opening back up & the prospect of getting back to the things that fuel me like time with friends & happy kids doing what they love, I am feeling stronger & safer & happier. The realist in me knows that I still have to put up the fight against inner demons attacking especially for my family, & that our country is still hurting and COVID is still on a rampage, but with each phone call or zoom or lunch date or birthday celebration, I’m finding my way back to that happy place where my smile can shine bright. If you’ve gotten this far, sorry for the ramble, but I share not only to hold myself accountable, but to also let anyone else out there also feeling the struggle, to know that you aren’t alone. Every day may not always be easy, but let’s keep putting one foot in front of the other & finding our way back to our smiles. ❤️ #realtalk #thestruggleisreal

EVANDER HOLYFIELD

Evander Holyfield, a boxing legend, was clearly the biggest star in the first season of "DWTS." In 2012, Holyfield retired from boxing for good.

After "DWTS," he showed up on "Celebrity Big Brother U.K" and, unfortunately, became the first housemate to be evicted.

At the age of 57, Holyfield looked fit as a fiddle as he regularly burns calories with an exhausting weights session.

JOEY MCINTYRE

Since the age of six, Joseph McIntyre has been working as an artist. He shot to fame when he was picked to become a member of the band New Kids on the Block in 1985.

After the band broke up in 1994, McIntyre pursued acting and was chosen to star as Matt Hucklebee in the hit 2000 film, "The Fantasticks."

JOHN O' HURLEY

John O'Hurley has starred in several hit projects, including "Seinfeld" (1989) and  "A Whole New Ballgame" (1995).

Study links celebrity worship to anti-vaccination attitudes and belief in conspiracy theories - PsyPost

blogsjga.blogspot.com

People with a strong interest in celebrities are not more likely than others to question the effectiveness of vaccines. However, new research published in Psychology, Health & Medicine indicates that celebrity worship is linked to several other types of anti-vaccination beliefs.

“I believe that anti-vaccination attitudes are a critical factor in understanding people’s vaccination intentions and behaviors,” explained study author Lisset Martinez-Berman of Texas A&M University-San Antonio.

“I am interested in predictors of anti-vaccination attitudes, so I wanted to explore whether celebrities were related to anti-vaccination attitudes. Anti-vaccination celebrities seem to be prominent in the media and celebrities in general have an inordinate amount influence on the public.”

The researchers surveyed 320 U.S. adults via Amazon’s Mechanical Turk platform. General interest in celebrities and more serious forms of celebrity admiration, such as a pathological obsession with celebrities, were not associated with mistrust of vaccine benefits.

But the researchers found that those who expressed greater interest in celebrities were more likely to agree with anti-vaccine statements such as “Authorities promote vaccination for financial gain, not for people’s health” and “Being exposed to diseases naturally is safer for the immune system than being exposed through vaccination.” In addition, those with more serious forms of celebrity admiration were more likely to agree with statements such as “Vaccines can cause unforeseen problems in children.”

“People who admire celebrities already know that vaccines are effective. Instead, they hold incorrect beliefs about natural immunity and are concerned about commercial profiteering and potential side effects,” Martinez-Berman told PsyPost.

“Celebrities are thought to be detrimental to public health when it comes to vaccines, but their big influence may be helpful in fighting anti-vaccination attitudes and to improve vaccination rates.”

Pathological celebrity admiration was also associated with belief in conspiracy theories, which in turn was associated with concerns about commercial profiteering.

“Our study was correlational in nature, so our results should be interpreted with caution. We cannot make causal conclusions about celebrity admiration and anti-vaccination attitudes. Therefore, we are unable to conclude whether celebrity admiration causes anti-vaccination attitudes or anti-vaccination attitudes lead to celebrity admiration,” Martinez-Berman explained.

“Some questions that still need to be addressed is whether this relationship may be due to a third unknown factor. For example, do people with preferences for getting health information online and hold anti-vaccination attitudes turn to celebrities for information? Does trust in physicians and medical experts an explanation for this relationship? Future research should continue to explore the relationship between celebrity admiration and anti-vaccination attitudes.”

The study, “Is the worship of celebrities associated with resistance to vaccinations? Relationships between celebrity admiration, anti-vaccination attitudes, and beliefs in conspiracy“, was authored by Lisset Martinez-Berman, Lynn McCutcheon, and Ho Phi Huynh.
