TennisBalls Comes Up With More Gossip, Facts, and Tidbits - 10sBalls

• Sadly Covid spikes again. Jamie Murray had to cancel/postpone his “Battle of the Brits”. They had put in many hours planning it. It’s a shame it had to be called off.

• Norman of Wimbledon got stuck in South Africa. Yes, he couldn’t get a flight out. Then he had to quarantine in a Marriott once he finally was able to return to London. He did get a 20-minute walk outside daily.

• Our Dear friend and Global Ambassador and master coach and Serbian star Dusan Vemic said he had 117 negative PCR tests since June 2020. Wow, that’s a lot of nose swabs? Throat swabs?

•Dominic Thiem suffers a setback with his wrist. He was planning on traveling from Abu Dhabi to Australia but instead headed home to Austria. He said he picked up a cold. Not Covid.

• Big congrats to Nicole Vaidisova on the birth of her second child named Meda with tennis playing hubby Radek Štěpánek.

• Solinco is known for its awesome strings, stringing machines, rackets, overgrips, and its amazing “heaven” socks. They are really comfortable and have great support. Available in white and black and soon in hyper G GREEN. That’s what we hear from KT.

• Who else thinks Patrick cost Serena a Major? The year he coached her from the box and she had warnings she was unaware of… We put it on him. Sadly NYC was never kind to Serena. She seemed to have questionable calls over the years.

• Glad tennis is finally doing away with lines people at the top levels of the game. The balls move too quickly for them. And their calls or attitudes result in questionable results on the outcomes?

• RF update. We hear the RF calendar may be sold out in America. Our order is on “backorder”. We hope they arrive soon. It’s a real beauty. Our autographed copy is already up and ready for 2022. Thank you Robbie, Lynette, and Team 8. Check his foundation website or tennis warehouse.

• Andrey Rublev wins in Abu Dhabi. We are proud of him. He “finished out“ the season. Some players just bailed early. They were tired… True champions fight with every ounce of energy. He represents the younger generation with the right attitude. One young American passed on Next Gen finals even though he qualified as well as he passed in Turin as an alternate. And 2 alternates got matches in. Not KOBE style. No MAMBA mentality. (not naming names but pointing fingers…)

The daily gossip: December 17, 2021 - The Week Magazine

He's new in town — and by town, we mean the world. Olivia Munn and John Mulaney are officially parents, according to TMZ, which reported Friday that Munn gave birth to a baby boy just before Thanksgiving. The couple didn't confirm the news, but Mulaney first announced they were expecting a baby on Late Night With Seth Meyers back in September. "I'm going to be a dad," he said. "We're both really, really happy." Mulaney filed for divorce from Anna Marie Tendler, whom he married in 2014, in July of this year, and he told Meyers in September about his ridiculously eventful past 12 months, during which he went to rehab, got divorced, and started dating Munn. "'She got to date me right out of recovery," Mulaney jokingly said of Munn, "which is what they call a reverse catch." Munn, meanwhile, said she was both "nervous" and "excited" to become Olivia Mom.

Gossip Girl Reboot Characters Ranked by Similarity to Original Characters - Collider.com

HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot has accomplished its goal of updating the original series for the modern age of social media. The reboot's contribution in terms of characters has drawn many comparisons to the original gang. These constant comparisons might be somewhat irritating to fans of the new series, who wish for it to be considered on its own merits.

The similarities between the old and new GG can be striking, however, which gives viewers plenty to analyze. Despite attempts to attract a new, younger audience with characters very firmly entrenched in the present, the echoes to the old crew persist. Perhaps these similarities are intentional (it certainly seems so), and the goal is to update the old Gossip Girl for the modern age in a more literal sense. The biggest difference between the old and the new GG is the role of the teachers, but for now, we’re going to focus on the student that Gossip Girl does her (or his, or their) reporting on.

RELATED: Why the 'Gossip Girl' Reboot’s Thanksgiving Episode Didn't Live Up to the Show's Iconic Seasonal Dramatics

7. Obie Bergman/Dan Humphrey

Obie-Gossip-Girl-Reboot
Image Via HBO Max

Obie (Eli Brown) and Dan (Penn Badgley) are the resident moralizers of the Upper East Side. Obie is a shock because, after the finale of the original Gossip Girl, many didn’t think it was possible for someone to be less likable than Dan Humphrey. The new GG writers have achieved this with Obie, who has all of the privileges of his classmates (and then some), which makes his judgemental attitude all the more unbearable.

Both Obie and Dan spend part of their first season torn between two girls. Obie is caught between his longtime girlfriend, Julien (Jordan Alexander), and her younger sister, Zoya (Whitney Peak). Dan was also once caught between an it-girl and an activist when he struggled to choose between Serena (Blake Lively) and Vanessa (Jessica Szohr).

6 - Aki Menzies/Nate Archibald

Aki-Gossip-Girl-Reboot
Image Via HBO Max

Like Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford) before him, Aki Menzies (Evan Mock) is one half of the “perfect couple”. Also like Nate, Aki has something of a wandering eye. His reasons for this differ from his heavily-banged predecessor: Aki is questioning his sexuality (valid), while Nate just slept with his girlfriend’s best friend (less valid). Another thing the two have in common is their strained relationships with their fathers. Aki’s father has questionable political alliances, while Nate tries to pin his drug use on him when his wife finds out about it. The last thing these two have in common? In spite of all these scandals, they are both really, really boring characters!

5 - Audrey Hope/Blair Waldorf

Audrey-Hope-Gossip-Girl-reboot
Image Via HBO Max

Both Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind) and Blair (Leighton Meester) have somewhat strained relationships with their fashion-designer mothers. Audrey’s mother has substance abuse problems, while Blair’s mother simply doesn’t appear to show much interest in her at the start of the series. They also share absentee fathers (join the club!). Audrey and Blair also seek comfort in the resident Bad Boy when their own boyfriends aren’t acting right. They’re both unapologetically mean, classic, and poised, and Audrey literally shares the name of Blair’s favorite actress, Audrey Hepburn.

4 - Julien Calloway/Serena van der Woodsen

Julien-Gossip-Girl
Image Via HBO Max

Both Julien Calloway and Serena van der Woodsen start off their respective series with a secret pertaining to a younger sibling. Julien is hiding the fact that she bribed Constance to let her younger half-sister Zoya attend, while Serena is hiding her brother’s recent suicide attempt. Julien is an influencer, the 2021 version of the socialite that Serena was before the era of social media. Like Serena, Julien often claims to be all changed and enlightened, and above the drama that her friends are always diving into headfirst. However, when push comes to shove, Julien and Serena get just as catty as the rest of their social circle.

In addition to these fun facts, both Julien and Serena have shown a proclivity for sleeping with the significant others of those closest to them. Julian does this with her younger sister’s boyfriend, and Serena with her best friend’s. To be fair to Julien, however, she did date Obie first. Both young women also suffer from the actions of their parents. Davis is accused of sexual misconduct, and Lily (Kelly Rutherford) famously falsely accused one of Serena’s teachers of engaging in an inappropriate relationship with her daughter (which, he sort of did, only not in the way she accused him of).

3 - Zoya Lott/Jenny Humphrey

Zoya-Gossip-Girl
Image Via HBO Max

Like Little J (Taylor Momsen) before her, Little Z finds her attempts to be friends with the in-crowd met with a chilly reception. Though Julien (like Serena) is often nice enough and willing to let her into the group, the others (Audrey, Luna, and Monet, mirroring the behavior of Blair and her minions) make it clear that Zoya is not and will never be truly welcome. Like Jenny, Zoya comes from the New York private school version of a poor background, complete with a Rufus-esque dad that enjoys talking about doing the right thing (but makes much less bolognese).

2 - Luna and Monet/Blair’s Minions

Luna-Monet-Gossip-Girl
Image Via HBO Max

The GG reboot teases the idea of making Luna (Zíon Moreno) and Monet (Savannah Lee Smith) actual characters outside of their status as Julien’s minions. It doesn’t quite succeed in its first season, but it does promise to give them more to do in season two. Here’s hoping that Monet steps out from Julien’s shadow because she could just be the next Blair Waldorf if she plays her cards right. Blair could take Serena down in her sleep, and Monet could do the same to Julien if she really tried.

1- Max Wolfe/Chuck Bass

Max-Gossip-Girl-Reboot
Image Via HBO Max

Max (Thomas Doherty) and Chuck (Ed Westwick) both expose their father’s cheating in Season 1, only to regret the consequences of doing so. They each live hedonistic lifestyles and rely heavily on self-medicating to avoid dealing with their feelings. Both young men are very sexual beings and succeed in seducing the more uptight members of their friend group. As a result of these seductions, Max and Chuck are confused to discover that they actually have human feelings.

Max Wolfe has the clearest edge over his original Gossip Girl counterpart. For one, he never sexually assaulted anyone (remember Chuck’s behavior in the pilot?). Furthermore, Max hasn’t sold anyone for a hotel (so far). Chuck definitely committed the most transgressions in the original Gossip Girl, and while Max isn’t an angel, he’s far from Chuck Bass.

Perez Hilton talks celebrity gossip takedowns on 'Red Table Talk' - Today.com

The penultimate episode of “Red Table Talk: The Estefans,” which drops Thursday on Facebook, will tackle “cancel culture” and put celebrity blogger Perez Hilton in the hot seat as he addresses his controversial past.

Hilton, 43, gained popularity in the early 2000s for his gossip website which would sometimes belittle celebrities like Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohan.

In a preview clip from the upcoming episode, host Gloria Estefan, her daughter Emily Estefan and her niece Lili Estefan question Hilton and the way he used to run his blog.

“There were human beings on the other side of your stories and we have to call a spade a spade here,” Emily Estefan tells Hilton. “You said some pretty hurtful things.”

He nods and agrees, “Oh, absolutely.”

Gloria Estefan chimes in and asks, “Did you feel powerful when you did those things?”

Hilton says that the word “power” did not resonate with him “because that would imply that I can force people to do things and I can force people to think a certain way.”

He added, “I could have influence, but I like to view it more like opportunity. I had the opportunity to share and people have the opportunity to receive.”

When Lili Estefan pushed back on him justifying his disparaging posts, Hilton further explained how he viewed his blog as a way of “shining the light on celebrities that get it right and those that get it wrong.”

Emily Estefan wondered if Hilton excused his gossip writings because he believed they were a part of the celebrity lifestyle.

“That’s one of the many talking points that I would tell my brain to program it, to justify my behavior,” he replied. “I was a drug addict and attention was my drug. I knew what I was doing was bad and I kept doing it and I kept being rewarded for it.”

The episode will also feature YouTube personality Gabbie Hanna who calls out Hilton for his lack of regret.

Hanna and the Estefans later discuss Hilton’s history of publicly outing celebrities and their sexualities on his website.

Last week, singer Lauren Jauregui appeared on the show and said Hilton “definitely outed” her when she was 15. She recalled Hilton sharing a Facebook link that included photos of her kissing her girlfriend at the time.

“I felt like my own process was violated,” Jauregui said.

Although he will speak about the incident on “Red Table Talk: The Estefans,” he told People that he is “not sorry nor remotely remorseful.”

“I’m genuinely sad that she was bothered by that, (but) I’m not gonna fake an apology,” he said. “It was her fans that caused this photo to go viral. By the time I commented on it, it had already gone viral. It wasn’t like I was given this piece of information or a photo and I was the first person to share it with the world; it was already trending by the time I chimed in.”

New Sweet Valley High Adaptation, From Gossip Girl EPs, Eyed at The CW - TVLine

The CW may soon enroll at Sweet Valley High.

The network is developing a new adaptation of the popular YA book series by Francine Pascal, with Gossip Girl‘s Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage set to executive-produce, Deadline reports.

The pilot script is being penned by Gossip Girl reboot scribe/producer Ashley Wigfield — who, yes, is sister of Tracey Wigfield, showrunner of Peacock’s Saved by the Bell revival. The logline for the potential series reads as follows:

Sweet Valley is the town everyone dreams of growing up in. And there’s no better example of that promise than Elizabeth Wakefield. But when her missing twin sister Jessica miraculously returns, it reignites a lifelong rivalry. It falls to new girl Enid Ruiz to discover that someone (or something) is pulling all the strings, but can she convince the twins that putting their personal war aside is the only way to drag Sweet Valley’s dark roots into the California sunshine?

The Sweet Valley High book series spawned 181 releases between 1983 and 2003. A previous small-screen adaptation starring real-life twins Brittany and Cynthia Daniel ran for three seasons in syndication from 1994 to 1997, before relocating to the now-defunct UPN for its fourth and final season.

A film adaptation was previously in development, with Diablo Cody attached to write the feature-length script.

In addition to Sweet Valley High, Schwartz and Savage are executive producers on The CW’s Dynasty, Nancy Drew and its upcoming Tom Swift offshoot, as well as the above-mentioned Gossip Girl reboot for HBO Max and the recently ordered City on Fire adaptation for Apple TV+. Wigfield, meanwhile, has also worked with the Fake Empire duo on Hulu’s Looking for Alaska and Marvel’s Runaways.

Are you intrigued by this latest (potential) adaptation of Sweet Valley High? Sound off in Comments.

25 “Gossip Girl” Reboot Outfits From The Final Two Episodes Of Season 1, Ranked From "Continuously Disappointing" To "Surprisingly Stunning" - BuzzFeed

I apologize in advance for how many times I scream about coats.

Heyyyy, Upper East Siders! Welcome to the final installment of snarky comments and hilarious quips about the fashion from Season 1 of the Gossip Girl reboot. It's been a hell of a ride and I couldn't be happier to have had you by my side through all of it.

So, for the last time until Season 2, let's dive straight into all of looks from Episode 11 and 12: "You Can't Take It with Jules" and "Gossip Gone, Girl."

25. Wendy's school benefit gown:

HBO Max

Guys, I'm at my wit's end about how ugly these dresses are. It honestly feels like a personal attack at this point. Let's hope we ditch these hideous looks in Season 2!

24. Kate's city cowgirl look:

HBO Max

I'm not sure how to explain this, but this sweater just screams, "YEEHAW," every time I look it.

23. Wendy's sophisticated scheming fit:

HBO Max

I think the only reason this outfit is palpable to me is because of the headband. It's giving discount Blake Lively going to the Met Ball and I'm here for it.

22. Obie's "rugged and down to Earth" outfit:

HBO Max

The bar is so low for the men on this show and Obie is the perfect example of that.

21. Donna's paisley dream coat:

HBO Max

I freakin' LOVE this coat!! It's long and the pattern is so funky. Ugh, this show really had their coat game on lock.

20. Nick's packing/going to work look:

HBO Max

I just love to look at him. I mean, what? Who said that?!

19. Max's sweet toggle coat:

HBO Max

Between the sweater, bow tie, and coat, he looks like an innocent school boy. Which is absolutely hilarious.

18. Julien's moving day fit:

HBO Max

Something I never got to touch on in these reviews is how refreshing it is to see black characters, especially Black girls, wear hair wraps. As someone with super curly hair, it's always frustrating to see Black women not wrap their hair when going to bed or just waking up. It's such a small detail, but I truly appreciate the show for incorporating it for Julien and Zoya. Plus, that jacket is dope AF.

17. Shan's streetwear look:

HBO Max

It's about time this show jumped out of the fancy world of Upper East Side fashion and give us a taste of what other people outside of Julien's circle wear.

16. Julien's preppy school uniform:

HBO Max

I've said it once and I'll say it again: BIKER SHORTS ARE NOT IT, CHIEF. However, that coat is incredibly classy and I do love how she's wearing it.

15. Zoya's cozy apartment hunting fit:

HBO Max

I'm such a sucker for tie-dye, especially tie-dye sweaters.

14. Julien's suuuuuper casual bar look:

HBO Max

OF COURSE I COULDN'T GET A GOOD PICTURE OF IT, but the body suit is super cute and the jeans look like Julien is taking a cue from Zoya's style.

13. Julien's nighttime stroll coat:

HBO Max

The knit dress underneath is cute as well, but this coat is EVERYTHING. The color, the length, I NEED it.

12. Heidi's classy fundraiser dress:

HBO Max

She may not have had a lot of scenes, but Ms. Heidi definitely made the right impression with this dress.

11. Luna and Monet's lounging around looks:

HBO Max

I'll never understand how they both can look so effortlessly beauitful.

10. Shan's punk rock school uniform:

HBO Max

Listen, guys, I know I've made some jokes in the past about how the Constance Billiard uniforms are basically anything you want them to be, but this one definitely has to be my favorite. It's so unique and edgy and everything I want to see more of in Season 2.

9. Zoya's pool day fit:

HBO Max

Once again, Ms. Zoya is not out here catering to anyone's standards when it comes to her fashion. While everyone is wearing designer bathing suits, my girl is out here in tie-dye shorts and slides. SLIDES! I couldn't love her more.

8. Luna's floral bathing suit:

HBO Max

Between the color being absolutely gorgeous on her and the fact that this suit highlights her incredibly long legs, I think this is my favorite look from the pool scene.

7. Luna's sweet stay-at-home fit:

HBO Max

It's so simple and yet so gorgeous?????

6. Monet's revenge planning look:

HBO Max

The best part of this outfit by far is the adorable captain's hat. It looks like something Janet Jackson would've worn in the '90s.

5. Camille's fiery dress moment:

HBO Max

Yes, Camille is a monster who raised a monster, but you can't deny that the de Haan's can rock the hell out of the color red. Speaking of which...

4. Monet's rocking red NYE dress:

HBO Max

I'm not gonna complain AGAIN about the fact that you couldn't get a clear look at this, but it's fine because Monet looks so freakin' good!!

3. Luna's lovely lace NYE gown:

HBO Max

When she came gliding out of the crowd wearing this, my jaw dropped. She looks like an angel. She looks like a sexy version of someone on Little House on the Prairie. Once again, Luna La has stolen my heart.

2. Julien's Lady Gaga-esque NYE look:

HBO Max

It's the pointy shoulder pads for me. Plus, I love how many times she's worn head stones this season. It's such a good look on her.

1. And finally, Audrey's little black NYE dress:

HBO Max

Okay, I'm not gonna lie, this surprised me as well. This dress is so simple, but it looks phenomenal on Audrey. In a season where Audrey never really impressed me with her fashion choices, this was such a nice and welcomed surprise. Let's keep this energy going into Season 2!!

And the winner for the best best fashion from Season 1 is...LUNA LA!!

HBO Max

I mean, are you surprised???

Alas, my darlings, our time has come to an end. Thank you so, so much for joining me on this fabulous journey through fashion. Until next time, XOXO!

Publisher's Toast: Scrambled Eggs, Lox, Onions, and Gossip - BevNET.com

I have a long- standing tradition of going to Barney Greengrass — an Upper West Side institution serving best fish, bagels, herring and assorted spreads for breakfast — with two of my favorite beverage buddies. For over 10 years now, every few months, I sit down with two of the most knowledgeable people in the industry, Gerry Khermouch and Kenny Sadowsky, at 8:45 in the morning. We proceed to enjoy a most delectable hour and a half of great Jewish food and even better conversation.

Gerry’s Beverage Business Insights newsletter is a great source of information — and scoops — within the beverage business, and even though we chase many of the same stories, we also have had him on board as a columnist for many years. His connections, and his ability to connect the dots, are mind boggling. Kenny, better known as the “Beverage Whisperer” is also legendary in the beverage world. He knows everyone, is kind to everyone, and assists many through advice and investment. If you want to get the latest dish, he’s the go-to guy.

But what I also love about these breakfasts is the rotating cast of characters that Kenny invites. We have Wall Street analysts, hedge funders and other assorted investors, number crunchers who give the go ahead or kill for so many potential deals, and distributors and marketers who are working on the ground. We mix in a supplier or two to give their perspective on the issues that impact the packaging and supply chain. Many who have joined us have become major players since they first dined on our standard dish, scrambled eggs with lox and onions, so many years ago. Maybe, it’s the food.

We love to talk shop, talk about tastes, and to talk about people. It’s a free- wheeling discussion, mixed with laughs, digressions on the past and projections on the future. We dissect IPOs, pontificate on company sales and mourn brands that didn’t make it. We follow trends and sales numbers, always hoping for success for every brand. We love them all and we want them to make it.

These mornings are among the highlights of my beverage experience. Being together with friends is a special part of my job. As we all head to our BevNET Live next month, the gathering takes these breakfasts and blows them up large, albeit minus the lox. Being with hundreds of terrific people in Santa Monica is simply the best. I hope to see you there.

To all, I wish you a happy, healthy and safe holiday season. On to 2022, and a better time.

Pope says he removed Paris archbishop because of gossip - Associated Press

ABOARD THE PAPAL PLANE (AP) — Pope Francis said Monday he accepted the resignation of the archbishop of Paris because the monsignor could no longer govern effectively thanks to the “gossip” about his relationship with a woman a decade ago.

Francis was asked en route home from Greece about the surprise decision, which came only days after Archbishop Michel Aupetit put his fate in Francis’ hands following French media reports about what he said was an “ambiguous” relationship with a woman.

French media reports also cited governance problems as a possible reason underlying Francis’ decision.

Responding to a question from a French reporter, Francis said there had been some “lapses” with Aupetit involving sexual sins. But he said they weren’t even that serious and only involved “some caresses and massages.” He added, that regardless, everyone is a sinner, including the pope himself.

But Francis said the comments that had ensued made it impossible for Aupetit to continue governing effectively. “We’re all sinners. When the gossip grows and grows and removes someone’s good name, he cannot govern,” Francis said.

“This is an injustice,” Francis added. “That’s why I accepted resignation of Aupetit: not on altar of truth but on the altar of hypocrisy.”

Aupetit offered to resign last month after Le Point magazine said he had a consensual, intimate relationship with a woman. The report relied on several anonymous sources who said they had seen a 2012 email Aupetit sent by mistake to his secretary.

Aupetit denied being the author of the email and told Le Point that he didn’t have intimate and sexual relations with the woman.

Francis accepted the resignation almost immediately, with the Vatican announcing it while the pope was flying to Cyprus on Dec. 2. Aupetit was 70, five years shy of the normal retirement age for bishops.

Aupetit said in a statement that day that he had offered to step down “to preserve the diocese from the division that suspicion and loss of trust are continuing to provoke.”

Francis was also asked about the devastating results of a French inquiry into cases of clergy sexual abuse in the French Catholic Church. The independent study estimated some 330,000 children overall were victims of sexual abuse linked to the church from 1950-2020. The inquiry’s methodology has been questioned, however, since the data was based on projections, not just files.

Francis said he hadn’t read the report but he stressed that with any such historical evaluation, it must be interpreted through the prism of the period under study. He said for the church and the question of clergy sexual abuse decades ago, that meant recalling that it was common for all abuses to be covered up, within families, the church and society at large.

Damian Lillard Calls out Gossip on IG Amid Rumors Surrounding His Blazers Future - Bleacher Report

SAN FRANCISCO, CA - NOVEMBER 26: Damian Lillard #0 of the Portland Trail Blazers looks on during the game against the Golden State Warriors on November 26, 2021 at Chase Center in San Francisco, California. Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard addressed ongoing speculation about his long-term future with the team.

"Gossip may reveal the realities of its subject; it always reveals the bias of the gossiper," read an image he posted to Instagram.

On Twitter, he also appeared to imply former Trail Blazers general manager Neil Olshey was attempting to malign his reputation:

Damian Lillard @Dame_Lillard

Can’t say I’m surprised. https://t.co/AwOUKOfGQv

ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported Tuesday that Lillard will seek a two-year, $107 million extension when he becomes eligible for one in July. He's already signed through the 2024-25 season after putting pen to paper on a four-year, $176.3 million extension.

According to Wojnarowski, Lillard's camp sees the extension as a way to effectively gut the current roster and start over with the six-time All-Star as the centerpiece.

However, potential candidates to succeed Olshey, who was fired on Dec. 3, are reportedly not as keen on that plan:

"Among several top-level GM candidates who fit the profile of Portland's applicant pool, there's no enthusiasm to grant Lillard his massive extension contract through the 2026-27 season. In fact, several executives told ESPN they would be far more interested in the Blazers job with ownership's blessing to move Lillard sooner than later."

Lillard obviously took issue with Wojnarowski's reporting, but his attempts to quell the rumors are unlikely to be successful.

As The Athletic's John Hollinger wrote, Lillard's tenure in Portland may be reaching its terminus.

By meeting his demand of a contract paying him $50 million annually, the Blazers risk having a John Wall or Russell Westbrook-sized albatross on their payroll. Wall and Westbrook both received massive extensions to stay with their current teams, and it didn't take long for those deals to backfire.

In the short term, the franchise's championship window may already be closed for the duration of Lillard's current deal. The Trail Blazers are 10th in the Western Conference at 11-14, and they don't have much in the way of trade assets to dramatically upgrade the roster.

Even if he's unable to bring Portland a title, Lillard is arguably the second-best player in team history behind Clyde Drexler. While trading a star who means so much to the fanbase is never easy, wiping the slate clean might be the best strategy for whoever replaces interim GM Joe Cronin.

And whether he likes it or not, Lillard is bound to drive plenty more conversations around the NBA.

Gwyneth Paltrow isn't even really that familiar with the Marvel projects she's personally been in, so did we expect her to know about the ones that don't involve her? Paltrow, who plays Pepper Potts in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, took some fan questions on Instagram and was asked if she's watched the latest MCU Disney+ show Hawkeye, starring Jeremy Renner. Not only hasn't she seen it, but this was apparently the first time she'd even heard of the show, as Paltrow wrote back, "No, what is that?" Normally, we'd assume this rules out a Pepper Potts cameo in the series — though considering Paltrow learned she was in Spider-Man: Homecoming years after the movie came out, don't be so certain.

Why Gossip Girl's Dan Humphrey Reveal Disappointed Fans | CBR - CBR

There's nothing worse than investing time and energy into a show only to be completely disappointed by the series finale. For most, Gossip Girl was this very series. The popular CW teen drama premiered in 2007 and was an instant hit among its younger fanbase. Featuring the fresh-faced talents of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Penn Badgley, the show centered around the drama-fueled lives of the wealthy students of the Upper East Side, with the titular "Gossip Girl" being an all-access blog spilling anyone and everyone's dirty secrets. It was all fun and games until Gossip Girl turned out to be ...Dan Humphrey.

Part of the appeal of Gossip Girl was that nobody knew who Gossip Girl (voiced by Kristen Bell) actually was, though she certainly knew everything about everyone else. She could've been anyone, and hints throughout the series pointed viewers in several different directions. One direction they did not really point to, however, was towards "Lonely Boy" Dan Humphrey (Badgley). Why was this reveal so polarizing?

RELATED: First Sex and the City Reboot Trailer Reveals HBO Max Premiere Date

Blake Lively and Penn Badgley in Gossip Girl

Gossip Girl (2007), based on a young-adult book series of the same name, centered around Dan Humphrey, a teen living in Brooklyn with his father and younger sister Jenny (Taylor Momsen). Infatuated with the mysterious and beautiful Serena van der Woodsen (Lively), he found himself begrudgingly mingling with the Upper East Side world more and more throughout the series. As Dan became involved in an on-again off-again relationship with Serena, he also grew closer to Serena's best friend (or worst enemy, given the day) Blair Waldorf (Meester) and her boyfriend Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), as well as the roguish Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick). Dan and Serena ultimately ended up getting married at the end of the series, shortly before it was revealed that Dan was Gossip Girl all along.

Dan's Motives are Questionable

Gossip Girl centered around the elite families of the Upper East Side. Dan and his family were not rich or elite by any means, and this was established from the very beginning. Almost all of Dan's character arc revolved around his obsession with Serena despite his hatred for all things Upper East Side. He never quite fit in with the cutthroat, backstabbing attitude the rest of his peers seemed to possess. This was the point of contention for him and Serena at several points in their relationship throughout the series, with them feeling as if they were from two worlds that were just too different.

Serena didn't necessarily like the deception and lies intertwining the lives of all Upper East Siders, but it WAS also all she knew, so she wasn't really taking any hard action to get away from it. Why would the show writers make such a point to have Dan be so anti-Upper East Side just to turn around and reveal him as the ultimate puppet master?

How Did He Do It?

One of the biggest unanswered questions is how could Dan be Gossip Girl? Strictly looking at the timeline of the events of Gossip Girl, there were several instances where Gossip Girl dropped a story about something or someone Dan wasn't even around for. In the pilot episode, Gossip Girl knew Serena was returning home from boarding school, but there would have been no way Dan could have known when she'd be arriving. Given that Gossip Girl mostly operated on anonymous tips from Upper East Siders to keep the blog fresh with juicy information, it's not totally out of the question that Dan would have pieced together stories from these tips and possibly his own sleuthing work, but it's still questionable, at best.

Why Did He Do It?

Some, if not all, stories Gossip Girl posted were personal attacks on either Dan or people closes to him. When Dan and Serena were in the beginning stages of their relationship, Gossip Girl posted a picture of Serena buying pregnancy tests. It's later revealed that she was buying them for Blair, but if that weren't the case, and Dan was Gossip Girl, why would he out his own girlfriend buying pregnancy tests?

RELATED: Why Katie Holmes Rejected the Role of Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Another problematic plot point comes from Gossip Girl revealing that Dan's younger sister lost her virginity to Chuck Bass. It's worth mentioning that the show did try to amend this plot hole within the series finale. Dan's father confronts him about exposing his sister's secret, to which Dan replies that Jenny was the one who wanted Gossip Girl to post the story. Regardless, instances like these make the ultimate reveal of Dan as Gossip Girl feel thrown together at the last moment, despite the fact that some of the writers have insisted Dan was meant to be Gossip Girl all along. It's easier to believe that, as some other writers have said, the plan for Gossip Girl's reveal was never set in stone.

Overall, ask any Gossip Girl fan their thoughts on the series finale, and they're bound to share their disappointment. While it may very well have been one of the most popular young adult shows of the early 21st century, many viewers felt that the ultimate reveal of Dan as Gossip Girl was too much to get past. Some claim the hints about Dan being Gossip Girl appeared as early as the pilot, while others argue his reveal was thrown together because the show runners knew the series' end was drawing near.  No matter the opinions, Gossip Girl is a show viewers are still buzzing about almost ten years after it went off the air. For fans still craving Upper East Side drama, a Gossip Girl reboot is available to stream on HBO Max, following a new cast and armed with even juicier scandals.

Are We Too Harsh On Celebrities? - New University

blogsjga.blogspot.com

Model and reality star Kendall Jenner recently filled the role of maid-of-honour at her best friend, Lauren Perez’s wedding. However, instead of focusing on the happy couple, social media users chose to focus on Jenner’s black form-fitting, cut-out dress, designed by Monôt.

Many believe that her choice in attire was incredibly risque and went against the rules of proper wedding etiquette. According to critics, the biggest unspoken rule one must keep in mind when attending a wedding is to avoid doing anything that could upstage the bride and groom. Jenner disregarded this notion when she wore a skin-bearing dress to the wedding reception that many deemed inappropriate as it looked like Jenner’s intention was to steal attention from the bride. Meanwhile, some Twitter users defended Jenner and her outfit choice.

One user on Twitter stated, “Why are so many people pi**ed about the dress that Kendall Jenner wore? She used that dress during the after-party and not the actual wedding. And y’all are saying she’s an attention-seeker???? You guys are GIVING her the attention. Make it make sense (sic).”

The reality is, a celebrity as well-known as Jenner is going to stand out no matter what she’s wearing. The argument that her dress stole attention from the bride lacks substance.

Regardless of what one deems to be proper wedding etiquette, the criticism Jenner is facing over her attire is excessive, and serves as an observation of the extreme harshness the media has on the miniscule actions of celebrities. The fact of the matter is that the general public tends to focus more on tearing apart celebrities for the smallest of things while ignoring more evident problematic circumstances they have been involved in.

For instance, Jenner has been known to participate in cultural appropriation. This year Jenner was accused of appropriating and profiting off of Mexican culture to promote her new Tequila brand, 818 Tequila.

Although plenty of people took to pointing out the problem with her promotion of the brand, the coverage and criticism she received remained on a minimal scale. Meanwhile, the amount of backlash people are sending her way over her wedding attire exceeds the responses given over the former situation.

Another example of a similar case was the public’s responses and critique of singer-songwriter, Taylor Swift. Swift has been guilty throughout the years of performative activism and her lack of acknowledgement of the intersectionality of gender with social class, race, and sexuality. Her unproductive allyship and awkward performativity in her songs or social media presence are certainly deserving of constructive feedback. However, rather than calling out her imperfect activism, the criticism towards Swift seems to mainly be focused on people’s opinions on her dating life. Haters of the singer-songwriter are willing to look past the aspects of Swift that should be critiqued, and instead have a variety of comments to give about who she’s dated in the past and present.

The focus on her dating life rather than substantial mistakes is not only blatantly sexist, but reflects society’s flawed methodology when criticizing celebrities.

Everyone has room for improvement and deserves to face constructive criticism, including celebrities. Given the platform and privilege they have, it’s important to hold them accountable for their actions and remind them that they are not exempt from making mistakes. However, in the grand scheme of things, what one wears to a wedding is undeserving of such harsh and excessive criticism. Instead, our energy should be focused on providing feedback that is actually useful and relevant to the overall bettering of people.

The biggest celebrity scandals of 2021 - Fox News

blogsjga.blogspot.com

Celebrities provided us with countless unforgettable moments in 2021, including marriages and divorces, the arrival of babies, red carpet and award show appearances, and of course, some scandals too.

From abrupt TV personality departures to stars getting "canceled," Hollywood A-listers certainly gave fans plenty to talk about. Check out this year's biggest celebrity scandals below.

Meghan Markle, Prince Harry detail royal family rift in tell-all interview

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry sat down with Oprah Winfrey for a wide-ranging interview in March which saw the couple make bombshell accusations about members of the British royal family, including that there were "concerns and conversations" about how dark her son Archie's "skin might be when he's born."

Winfrey later told Gayle King that despite pressing Prince Harry "on camera and off" about who was a part of those conversations, he would not say.

Harry told Winfrey that he felt trapped by royal life and was surprised that he was cut off financially and lost his security last year. He also said he felt his family did not support Meghan, who acknowledged her naiveté about royal life before marrying Harry, as she endured tabloid attacks and false stories.

Meghan also revealed that she experienced suicidal thoughts while living overseas and dealing with the media frenzy surrounding the royal family. She said she tried to seek help through the palace's human resources department, but was allegedly told by a "senior" member of the institution that her receiving mental health care would reflect poorly on the family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex's departures from royal duties began in 2020 over what they described as the British media's intrusions and racist attitudes toward the former American actress.

The family now resides in the coastal city of Montecito, California. They welcomed daughter Lilibet Diana in June.

Chrissy Teigen's cyberbullying scandal

Following reports of cyberbullying, Cravings mogul Chrissy Teigen faced heavy criticism this year.

The 35-year-old cookbook author was called out by Courtney Stodden for years of unwarranted social media bullying. Lindsay Lohan, Farrah Abraham and "Project Runway" star Michael Costello also accused Teigen of cyberbullying.

Then, Teigen was dealt a huge blow after reports circulated that retail giant Bloomingdale's had pulled out of a deal it had in place with the model. Macy’s, which shares a parent company with Bloomingdale’s, also said it’s "not actively selling Cravings by Chrissy Teigen on our site," but it's unclear if they will bring back her products in the future.

Teigen publicly apologized for her past behavior multiple times, including in a lengthy post on Medium, which she shared on social media.

She also opened up about being put in the "cancel club" following the controversy.

"Iiiii don’t really know what to say here...just feels so weird to pretend nothing happened in this online world but feel like utter sh-t in real life," Teigen wrote on Instagram in July. "Going outside sucks and doesn’t feel right, being at home alone with my mind makes my depressed head race. But I do know that however I’m handling this now isn’t the right answer.

"I feel lost and need to find my place again,I need to snap out of this, I desperately wanna communicate with you guys instead of pretending everything is okay. I’m not used to any other way!! Cancel club is a fascinating thing and I have learned a whollllle lot. Only a few understand it and it’s impossible to know til you’re in it."

"And it’s hard to talk about it in that sense because obviously you sound whiney when you’ve clearly done something wrong," Teigen added. "It just sucks. There is no winning. But there never is here anyhow. All I know is I love you guys, I miss you guys, and I just needed an honest moment with you because I’m just...tired of being sick with myself all day."

She ended her post jokingly asking if there was a "cancel club reunion" she could attend.

Britney Spears' conservatorship battle

Britney Spears’ conservatorship drama was perhaps one of the most talked-about controversies in Hollywood in 2021. After numerous documentaries covering the pop star's legal and family drama, a judge relieved her from the 13-year court order once and for all in November.

Despite Spears' newfound freedom, several issues still exist. She claimed in her July testimony that her father is guilty of "conservatorship abuse." She's also gone after other members of her family, including her sister, Jamie Lynn Spears, and her mother, Lynne Spears, claiming that they failed to help her.

BRITNEY SPEARS' CONSERVATORSHIP, EXPLAINED

While the conservatorship has ended, questions still remain whether her father, Jamie Spears, will agree to be deposed by the singer's attorney Mathew Rosengart.

In a statement to Fox News in September, Rosengart said, "To the extent Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath, he is incorrect and our investigation into financial mismanagement and other issues will continue."

Chris Harrison exits "Bachelor" franchise

In June, Chris Harrison exited the "Bachelor" franchise following a racism controversy. He reached a deal with Warner Bros. and producers.

"Chris Harrison is stepping aside as host of ‘The Bachelor’ franchise. We are thankful for his many contributions over the past 20 years and wish him all the best on his new journey," Warner Horizon and ABC Entertainment said in a statement obtained by Fox News.

Harrison posted a message to fans on his Instagram. "I’ve had a truly incredible run as host of ‘The Bachelor’ franchise and now I’m excited to start a new chapter. I’m so grateful to Bachelor Nation for all of the memories we’ve made together. While my two-decade journey is wrapping up, the friendships I’ve made will last a lifetime," he wrote.

He had previously stepped aside from his hosting duties for "The Bachelorette" after defending contestant Rachael Kirkconnell after it came to light that she attended an Antebellum-themed party prior to appearing on the show. The 24-year-old, who appeared in Season 25 with Matt James, the show's first Black lead, issued a lengthy apology after the photos resurfaced. She condemned her past actions, which included attending an "Old South"-themed party in 2018 at a plantation and dressing up in a Native American costume.

Travis Scott's Astroworld tragedy

On Nov. 5, Travis Scott's Astroworld music festival made headlines after a reported crowd surge resulted in 10 dead and hundreds more injured.

Authorities have said 50,000 people attended the event in Houston, Texas. Over 300 people were treated at a field hospital on-site at NRG Park, and at least 13 were later hospitalized.

Houston Fire Chief Samuel Peña called the event "a mass casualty incident." "The crowd began to compress towards the front of the stage, and that caused some panic, and it started causing some injuries," the fire chief said. "People began to fall out, become unconscious, and it created additional panic."

Following the tragedy, the remaining dates for the Astroworld Festival were canceled. Live Nation, the organizers and Scott released statements.

Live Nation shared on Twitter, "Our hearts are with the Astroworld Festival family tonight - especially those we lost and their loved ones." "We are focused on supporting local officials however we can. With that in mind, the festival will no longer be held on Saturday. As authorities mentioned in their press conference earlier, they are looking into the series of cardiac arrests that took place. If you have any relevant information on this, please reach out to the Houston Police."

One day later, the rapper took to Instagram saying, "I’m honestly just devastated," in a series of videos shared to his account. "We’re actually working right now to identify the families so we can help assist them through this tough time."

ASTROWORLD TRAGEDY: TRAVIS SCOTT, KYLIE JENNER 'DEVASTATED,’ RAPPER IN ‘CONSTANT STATE OF SHOCK’: SOURCE

Scott emphasized that he didn't know the severity of the issues going on during the concert. He said the following week that he was still "actively exploring routes of communication" with families affected by the tragedy, a statement from his reps obtained by Fox News Digital said.

"Over the last week, Travis Scott and his team have been actively exploring routes of connection with each and every family affected by the tragedy through the appropriate liaisons," the statement continued. "He is distraught by the situation and desperately wishes to share his condolences and provide aid to them as soon as possible, but wants to remain respectful of each family’s wishes on how they’d best like to be connected."

"To those families who would like to reach out directly to his team, please send an email to the below address where we will have a team on hand to assist," the statement continued before adding the address, AW21information@gmail.com.

Multiple lawsuits against Scott, other Astroworld performers, Live Nation and more have since been filed.

Alec Baldwin's onset tragedy

Alec Baldwin became the center of tragedy when a fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins took place on the set of the movie "Rust" on Oct. 21.

Baldwin was starring and producing the film and has since been named in lawsuits filed by other crew members. The tragedy occurred on the Bonanza Creek Ranch in New Mexico.

Santa Fe County Sheriff’s officials said Hutchins, 42, and director Joel Souza were shot on the rustic film set in the desert on the southern outskirts of Santa Fe. Authorities confirmed that a firearm discharged by Baldwin, 63, killed Hutchins and wounded Souza, 48.

ALEC BALDWIN'S CLAIM HE DIDN'T PULL TRIGGER ON 'RUST' QUESTIONED BY SHERIFF: 'GUNS DON'T JUST GO OFF'

In early December, Baldwin claimed in an interview with ABC that he did not pull the trigger of the gun. The Santa Fe Sheriff's Department said it is awaiting results from the FBI, which would shed light on how the gun could have been fired, whether that was just pulling back the hammer – which hits the firing pin – just pulling the trigger or both.

"Guns don't just go off," Sheriff Adan Mendoza told Fox News Digital. "So whatever needs to happen to manipulate the firearm, he did that and it was in his hands."

Assistant director Dave Halls, as well as the movie's head armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, are among other members of the crew who have come under scrutiny.

Investigators have described "some complacency" in how weapons were handled on the "Rust" set. They have said it is too soon to determine whether charges will be filed, amid independent civil lawsuits concerning liability in the fatal shooting.

"Jeopardy" hosting controversy

"Jeopardy!" has been on television since 1984 and had rarely seen scandal in the decades since then. However, the show's history was recently marred by controversy when the search for a replacement for late host Alex Trebek led the show to hire executive producer Mike Richards before he was ultimately ousted from the role.

'JEOPARDY!' CONTESTANT'S SHOCKINGLY LOW SCORE DISQUALIFIES HIM FROM FINAL 'JEOPARDY!' ROUND

The saga isn't quite over yet, as "Jeopardy!" is still looking for someone to serve as a permanent host. For now, "Big Bang Theory" alum Mayim Bialik and "Jeopardy!" famed champ Ken Jennings are co-hosting. The two were named as temporary co-hosts following Richards' decision to end his relationship with Sony entirely.

On Aug. 31, 2021, it was announced that Richards would no longer work as an executive producer on "Jeopardy!" or "Wheel of Fortune."

"We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at Jeopardy! it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks," a note from Sony brass said to staffers said at the time. "That clearly has not happened."

Richards' exit was driven by scandals from his past that bubbled to the surface. Among them were a handful of comments he made during a podcast several years before that were deemed sexist. He had also previously been named as a defendant in multiple discrimination lawsuits filed during his 10-year run as executive producer of the "The Price Is Right," per Variety

Shakeup at "The Talk"

Sharon Osbourne faced allegations of racism that ultimately led to her jumping ship with the "The Talk" after years on the air.

The former reality star announced in March she "has decided to leave" the long-running CBS daytime talk show.

Her departure came a few weeks after a heated exchange between Osbourne, 68, and co-host Sheryl Underwood, in which Osbourne expressed support for Piers Morgan after he left "Good Morning Britain" over differing opinions about Meghan Markle following the Duchess of Sussex and Prince Harry's bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Sharon Osbourne said that she does not plan to return to TV after her dramatic exit from "The Talk."

"The events of the March 10 broadcast were upsetting to everyone involved, including the audience watching at home," CBS' statement said.

It continued: "As part of our review, we concluded that Sharon’s behavior toward her co-hosts during the March 10 episode did not align with our values for a respectful workplace. We also did not find any evidence that CBS executives orchestrated the discussion or blindsided any of the hosts."
