2021 Golden Globes: How the Celebrities Are Getting Ready at Home - Entertainment Tonight

DC EDit | Code flawed; equates media, gossip, arts - Deccan Chronicle

A code of ethics and a three-tier grievance redressal mechanism are applicable to news publishers, Over The Top (OTT) entertainment platforms and digital media encompassing the social media that is used by millions of Indians. The Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021 have recycled many existing provisions with the sole aim of establishing stringent government control over the giants of the Big Tech world. The logic of placing the digital news media in the same basket as a social gossip platform and entertainment channel is fundamentally flawed.

Official India is under pressure like never before. The country’s international image has been hit hard in the arrest of Disha Ravi after India chose to respond to the likes of pop singer Rihanna and climate activist Greta Thunberg. The response is seen now in the new moves to rein in the digital world, which fall just short of the notorious pre-publication censorship attempted during the Emergency in 1975. As a hypersensitive nation that makes the most requests to digital media sites to take down content, India will be judged by its intent in its actions after empowering itself formally.

The second fundamental flaw in this hotchpotch approach, which mercifully falls short of creating a Great Firewall type of censorship as in China’s total control over its internet ecosystem, is that compliance regulations are being added to existing provisions even as a bipartisan Parliamentary panel is studying the subject in detail after inviting representatives of Big Tech to depose before it. The impatience is owed to the image hits and subsequent crude retaliatory responses by the bureaucracy in intimidating the media and criminalising dissent. The sum total of this effort at damage control is the casting of a huge shadow on media freedom in the guise of averting irresponsible comment on social media by individuals.

There is little to fault the framing of compliance requirements being thrust upon a social media that has till now gone scot-free while monetising hate and doing little to keep out fake news. They cannot host all manner of irresponsible comment in the guise of freedom of speech either. They may have armed the common man with a platform to vent out his angst, but they are not a substitute for organised news presentation. Nor can news media be clubbed with social media under one umbrella. News content is subject to various rules and regulations already and additional compliance requirements will only burden them while threatening their established news streaming procedures through oversight committees filled with bureaucrats.

The sensitivities of the bureaucracy or the ruling party alone cannot be the sole criterion for reining in the social media. In the normal course, the government should have prepared legislation for data protection and privacy issues rather than look at it in the narrow perspective of controlling opinion being expressed on social media even as certain elements tyrannise the net through vicious online trolling. The streaming media like OTT platforms also host creativity in avant-garde content and it’s moot whether government servants can stand in judgment on such matters as the art of cinema. In short, these rules are best abandoned and legislation prepared with greater thought.

Leap Year Babies! Celebrities Who Were Born on February 29 - Us Weekly

blogsjga.blogspot.com

February 29 only falls on the calendar once every four years or so, giving the people who are born on the bonus day an excuse to party harder than regular ol’ folk. When it’s not a leap year, most leaplings (yes, that’s a thing) choose to celebrate on either February 28 or March 1, while others seize the opportunity to go all out on both days.

Believe it or not, dozens of celebrities and public figures made their arrivals into the world on leap days, dating as far back as Pope Paul III in 1468 and as recently as NBA player Tyrese Haliburton in 2000.

As one of the most well-known stars born on February 29, Ja Rule cracked a joke about his age when he turned the big 4-0 in 2016 during the launch of his Las Vegas show.

“My @foxtailatsls residency kick [sic] off crazy wit [sic] my 10th bday party lol,” he quipped via Instagram at the time.

The “Put It on Me” rapper celebrated with a three-tier cake and a performance alongside music producer Irv Gotti, who told the crowd that Ja Rule (real name Jeffrey Bruce Atkins) was “actually 10 years old because he was born on a leap year.”

Tony Robbins upped the ante four years later for his 60th birthday, throwing a massive party and benefit concert at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. He donated 100 percent of the $18 million that the event raised to Operation Underground Railroad, a nonprofit organization that aims to eradicate child sex trafficking.

“Tony believes that the secret to living is giving,” the motivational speaker’s wife, Sage Robbins, said in a statement in 2020. “He has devoted his life to helping people realize their passions and change their circumstances. I cannot think of a better way to celebrate this milestone birthday than to support his mission and commitment to O.U.R., with the goal of saving thousands more children from some of the worst conditions on Earth.”

Tony’s party (which took place during a leap year) included performances by Pitbull, Melissa Etheridge, Andy Grammer, Leona Lewis and Cold War Kids. The star-studded guest list included Paris Hilton, Julianne Hough, Derek Hough, Gerard Butler and Annette Bening.

Jada Pinkett Smith Once Revealed Gossip 'Taught My Family a Beautiful Lesson' - Showbiz Cheat Sheet

Jada Pinkett Smith’s often the subject of gossip. She and her longtime husband, Will Smith, have made headlines for a supposed “entanglement” with August Alsina, their parenting techniques, and everything in between. However, through all of the ups and downs, the 49-year-old actor’s learned something valuable.

Being famous is sometimes difficult for the Smith family

Pinkett Smith and Smith are famous as a result of their professions. They’re successful actors and being household names comes with the territory. It’s a different story for their two children, Jaden and Willow Smith. 22 and 20-years-old respectively, Jaden and Willow were born celebrity kids. They grew up in the public eye. On some occasions, it’s been hard for them to navigate.

During a 2018 episode of the family’s talk show, Red Table Show, Jaden opened up about why he chose to emancipate himself at 16. It had a lot to do with him trying to be a “normal person” and leaving the Smith family “bubble.”

Growing Up Smith!

At the Red Table this week, Jaden Smith and Willow Smith reveal what it's like growing up in one of the most famous families in America. Adrienne Banfield Norris (Gammy) wonders if the kids may have been granted too much independence by their parents Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith.

“You’re not a normal human if you can’t go out into the world,” Jaden said. “I don’t know how things always work.”

As for Willow, she shared that people she thought were friends were using her for her fame. Now adults and celebrities in their own right, Jaden and Willow are more adjusted to fame and Hollywood but it can still be a struggle at times.

Gossip’s taught Jada Pinkett Smith and her family to not ‘worry about being liked’

In 2013, Pinkett Smith spoke to Redbook with her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, and a few of her closest friends. When asked if she was even a little attracted to reality TV or tabloids as “cotton candy for the brain,” the Bad Moms actor admitted that in her personal experience it’s anything but.

“It is not cotton candy for the brain,” she said. “I have been affected by it, and I know other people who have been too. I have seen marriages destroyed by gossip. It is cruel.”

She continued, saying although it can cause damage, gossip’s actually taught her and her family an important lesson about life.

“I must say, though, that all the trials we have been through have taught my family a beautiful lesson: You can’t worry about being liked. You have to be who you truly are, because there are going to be people who hate you anyway,” she explained. “At the end of the day, all that matters is: Do you love what you see when you look in the mirror? That is it, baby.”

Gossip highlights ‘issues we haven’t dealt with’, according to Jada Pinkett Smith

Don’t expect Pinkett Smith to sit down with her friends over a glass of wine and dish on the latest gossip. She knows how damaging it can be. The Girls Trip star sees gossip as something that might point to internal “struggling.”

“I think we gossip about things we are subconsciously struggling with,” she told Redbook. “So if we’re gossiping about someone who is not a good friend, we might have some issues we haven’t dealt with about not having been a good friend ourselves.”
