While the world is dealing with super virus Coronavirus, American daytime drama viewers are dealing with SopasInteruptus. They are going viral. Lots of tweets yammering, "Where is my soap?!" The impeachment trial has been wall-to-wall coverage for the past week. No one is certain what next week will bring. NBC has played it very smart with "Days of our Lives." Coverage of the trial usually begins at 1 p.m. EST. "Days" joins the news coverage at 2 p.m.
"Days of Our Lives" has had more drama than the president. That's not an easy feat, but the show goes back to last year's Mother's Day. What a day that was in Salem. Brady and Kristen lost their infant daughter, and Will is in jail for vehicular homicide. Adrienne died when he was texting instead of watching the road. Princess Gina and Stevano are plotting murder.
Last week, everything we thought we knew was wrong. Sarah's newborn died in the car crash, caused by a drunken Maggie. Xander switched Kristen and Brady's daughter with Sarah's. Will learns he was not responsible for the accident. All brilliant and entertaining. If your soap is interrupted but you like to take your break at 1 p.m. EST, give "Days" a try. One thing you need to know. Many of "Days" stories are a bit farfetched. No matter the issue — from spells to doppelgangers — the actors pull it off.
Speaking of doppelgangers, one of the best in Salem returns. Judi Evans deals with the death of her beloved Adrienne. She has a doppelganger — Bonnie Lockhart. The character is fun. Like Adrianne, she is also fierce. With her partner in jailhouse crime, Hattie, played by Deidre Hall, the two are bound to have some "they did not do that" scenes. They duo are a very delicious couple. Lots of high jinks. It so good to have Judy back in Salem. In real life, she suffered the death of her son. Since the show tapes several months in advance, she did not have to mourn losing her job at the same time. She did love Adrienne "think it, say it" Kiriakis.
The best-looking actor in daytime, Brandon Beemer (Shawn), is back. He beats out a lot of competition. As usual, this is just a pop-up, hello, goodbye, visit. He should be back full time.
He is connected to several major characters. Salem needs a cop who knows what he is doing. Sorry Rafi and Hope/Gina, the Salem police force is like the Keystone Cops. Every time the town has a serial killer, dozens more die as they wait for Barney Fife to crack the case. Speaking of, Hope/Gina is out of control. The only tip off to her loved ones is that she smokes.
Whatever the show does they need to keep the smoking hot Beemer full time.
