The beautiful, peaceful patio is away from the crowded, noisy streets and a doorman will do temperature checks upon entry and escort you to a slice of paradise here in Astoria.
Start your morning at Gossip Coffee with Queens’ best coffee from local roasters “For Five Coffee” brewed and blended into your favorite coffee drinks, both hot, cold, and cold-brewed. The breakfast sandwich of egg, avocado, bacon jam, and tomato on a semolina roll is swiftly packed up to go. The “Manhasset” is a platter of scrambled eggs with haloumi cheese, spinach, roasted peppers, and tomato on a fresh semolina roll. The Mermaid Acai bowl is loaded with strawberries, banana, blueberries, coconut, and yogurt raisins for a nutritious breakfast. Try the 24-hour oatmeal, prepared overnight with steel cut oats, honey, walnuts, chia seeds, and cashew butter for a healthy start. Chef Scheyla, who hails from Barcelona, whips up a Spanish omelet with eggs, onions, potatoes, and Serrano ham pate that is out of this world. Eggs Benedict with avocado sauce is delicious too. Pastries are made fresh each day and feature gluten-free options like chocolate cake made with sweet potato, avocado, cocoa, and coconut. Enormous cookies come in flavors such as chocolate chip, pumpkin cheesecake, and chocolate with a melted center, and you will also find homemade spinach pie for a light snack. All these treats go well with a steaming cup of For Five Coffee.
For lunch or dinner, dig into the Long Island street corn salad composed of sweet, roasted corn tossed with avocado, red peppers, radish, cilantro, Mexican cheese, and tortilla chips with creamy lime dressing. The Chimichurri steak sandwich is a two-handed affair filled with juicy skirt steak, jicama, arugula, and zesty chimichurri sauce that makes the perfect lunch or dinner ($19.95). Summer is the best time of year for a Lobster Roll scented with a touch of tarragon and lemon and order an ice-cold beer to accompany it. Dolsot Bibimbap is a vegetarian and gluten-free powerhouse of flavors inspired by a traditional Korean dish. A generous bowl is layered with steamed brown rice, glazed shitake mushrooms that taste like meat, baby spinach, Brussel sprouts, and zucchini, all topped with a sunny-side-up egg. The spicy sauce, served on the side, gives this unique dish an extra kick that will make you come back for more. Gossip serves great cocktails, wine, and beer too, until they close at 5pm.

Chipskates Pop-Up bar is the brainchild of James Paloumbis, business partner of Stefano Vouvoudakis, who together own Gossip Coffee in Astoria. Chipskates’ logo is a throwback to the good old days of Pac Man and skating rinks when life was simpler. The backlit bar changes colors and offers fine wine, craft beer, and top shelf spirits mixed into fabulous cocktails by expert barman Fotis. He mixes the perfect Heritage Manhattan, finished with squeezed orange zest and the Negroni is an Italian classic cocktail that he makes just right. The Chipskates Spritz and the Blonde Sangria are both refreshing summer drinks to enjoy in the peaceful patio strung with lights and lit by candles on your table. An extended awning will cover you if it rains. Cocktails are offered in single and double shot sizes and are very reasonably priced. A curated wine list offers great prices by the glass or bottle. Since we can’t travel abroad this summer, Chipskates has created signature cocktails to transport you to your favorite locations. The Mykonos Paloma, Mediterranean Cosmopolitan and Tsipourita will cool and refresh you with fine spirits and herbs to delight you.
If you’re feeling hungry Chipskates is preparing bar snacks for you to enjoy, all prepared in the kitchen and sealed for optimum cleanliness and enjoyment. Chef Scheyla makes homemade black pepper beef jerky and Cajun pork rinds. Fresh popcorn with sesame glazed pistachios is addictive and soft, German-style pretzels are great for sharing. Munch on rosemary-roasted cashews, fried peanuts, or house made white truffle potato chips.
