CELEBRITIES have shorter marriages than the rest of us, a study has found.
The divorce rate for famous newlyweds is two thirds higher than for other couples.
It comes from an analysis of 484 stars whose nuptials were covered in glossy magazines from 2001 to 2010.
In the first 16 years just over half the marriages ended in break-up, compared with three in ten for non-celebs.
Katy Perry and Russell Brand and Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr are among those who got divorced within four years.
Previous studies had shown that wealthy couples have greater stability but this was not found to be the case for the famous.
Musicians were most likely to back out, with a 69% divorce rate for first marriages.
Harry Benson, researcher for the Marriage Foundation’s report, said “unrealistic expectations created by these fairytale weddings” were likely to be a factor in the marriages’ failures.
He said it made celebs “very poor role models”, adding: “Ego and opportunity are the main culprits.
“Being constantly told how wonderful you are is bound to boost ego, undermining the need to put your husband or wife first.”
