CHACE CRAWFORD is probably best known these days for his role as the Fresca-chugging, Aquaman-esque superhero The Deep on Amazon Prime Video's smash hit genre satire The Boys, but he can never get too far away from the role that first catapulted him to fame: playing Nate Archibald on 121 episodes of The CW's teen drama Gossip Girl. And even though he's since moved onto another show with slightly more action, he still gets hit with important Gossip Girl questions from time to time—like who was the best kisser of the many on the show he locked lips with.
"Ha! I can't even remember," he said in the latest edition of Men's Health's video series Vs. the Internet. "Usually, it's one of those things where you're sitting around with 60 people watching with the sound boom in your face, and you're trying to really...do it. No."
But then he thought for a second longer, and remembered a certain actress/model who appeared in 14 episodes of the show. "But maybe Elizabeth Hurley." Can't argue with that selection.
Another commenter wondered how, exactly, Crawford managed to bulk up his biceps to believable superhero size in less than a year. Mostly, he attributed it to his role on The Boys, but he also seemed to give a lot of credit to quick, efficient workout sessions.
"It's nice to have a show like The Boys; you have a reason to do it, and it's fun in that regard," he said. "But I still do it... I time my workouts, and I make my breaks in between sets shorter. I try to get in and out of that place, because I hate it. I hate the gym! But I feel a lot better after."
He also added, later in the video, that not all of what you see when The Deep is in costume is actually a result of Crawford's workout routine—some of that is padding, and uncomfortable padding at that, as the 35-year-old points out.
Perhaps the most interesting idea in the video, though, comes from one commenter who noted that Crawford was "born to play Gambit." Gambit, of course, is a classic character from Marvel Comics' X-Men world.
"I agree with you!" he says, laughing. "I do love Gambit. I don't know if I'm contractually allowed to say that. I'm going to write a petition, and I'm going to have you sign it."
Many know Gambit best as the card-throwing Cajun from the comics (the character was introduced in 1990), but he also notably had a pivotal role in the '90s X-Men cartoon. The character never really got a major big screen role in a feature film (he was played, briefly, by Taylor Kitsch in X-Men Origins: Wolverine), but now that Disney owns the rights to X-Men, and the MCU might be looking for a Gambit of its own, Crawford seems on board with the idea.
At the conclusion of the video, he makes mention of it again—making us think it's an idea that you wouldn't have to twist his arm too hard for.
"Okay! I have heard what the internet has to say, and I've responded," he says. "Sign the petition. I'll play Gambit. Love you guys."
