People Are Comparing Netflix's 'Saucy' Bridgerton To A 19th Century Gossip Girl - Tyla

Ever since Netflix's latest show, Bridgerton dropped on Christmas Day, viewers have been comparing it to a "period drama meets Gossip Girl" - and a saucy one at that!

Fans have been taking to social media over the last few days to gush about the scandalous series, which follows Daphne Bridgerton (played by Phoebe Dynevor) as she navigates the 'marriage market' of 1813.

Daphne is the eldest daughter of the Bridgerton family, and faces pressure to follow in her parent's footsteps by finding a true love match.

But as her older brother rules out each and every one of her potential suitors, the mysterious Lady Whistledown (Julie Andrews) - who narrates the dramas around London's high society in a Gossip Girl style 'scandal sheet' - begins to cast aspersions on Daphne.

So, after meeting Simon, Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page) - a committed bachelor - the pair strike a mutually beneficial deal to pretend to be engaged. But things take a (very) steamy turn when sparks fly between the pair (side note, probably best not to watch with your parents over the Christmas period).

And viewers of the show are obsessed, with many comparing the series to GG, with one tweeting: "Bridgerton is just a regency era gossip girl."

While another said: "Watching Bridgerton and it's literally period drama gossip girl" and one added: "@JulieAndrews is really like a regency Gossip Girl in Bridgerton and wow am I obsessed with it."

"Netflix really said 'Gossip girl, but make it a period drama'," tweeted another fan.

Many fans couldn't believe how much it reminded them of their favourite upper East Side series, but it wasn't the only part of the show to shock viewers.

Hundreds took to Twitter to voice their surprise at how steamy the show is, with many begging others not to watch with their parents.

One person tweeted: "I highly recommend Bridgerton on Netflix for all your horny regency era needs."

While another said: "I actually didn't expect Bridgerton to be this... horny."

"Bridgerton is horny as f*** and I am into it," said one.

The series is made up of eight episodes, with many viewers admitting to bingeing the lot in just one day.

If you're yet to tune in, we recommend you do so immediately... XOXO Lady Whistledown.
