Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf is a woman of intrigue. Yes, Blair can be a total bully and systematically intimidate someone out of Manhattan but she has the potential to be a good friend and a loyal, caring, and empathetic ally. To her friends, especially, Blair has often proved her integrity.
As she grew up and began working on herself she did try to leave her toxic patterns behind, and though she wasn’t completely successful, her efforts are definitely worth an exploration.
10 Teenager: Dumped Serena For Her Sorority
What elite sorority teen hasn’t ditched a few friends to hang out with new and cooler Kappa or Chi Omega sisters? For rich kids, this may even be a right of passage to adulthood. So, when Blair was elected to be a part of the Hamilton House sorority and Serena wasn’t, it was quite a shock.
And though Blair assured Serena it wouldn't affect their friendship, like any teenager who’s dazzled by her glam of new sorority, she starts spending a whole lot of time with Juliet and her new peers and can’t seem to find any time for Serena.
9 Wise Beyond Her Years: When She Policed A Tights-Wearing Sophomore
One can imagine a teacher or a parent chastising a high schooler for wearing tights at a private school, but Blair Waldorf, ultimate fashion police, of course, has a lot to say in this area as well. Blair’s iconic ‘tights are not pants’ line may actually have inspired teens across the globe to ditch tights for the good.
Blair’s fashion sense was of course quite classical, in spite of her brave experiments, and she shamed a classmate for wearing tights with her skirt instead of what she would have preferred bottoms.
8 Teenager: When She Stalked Her Ex’s New Girlfriend
Blair just couldn't make peace with the fact that Chuck had a new girlfriend with who he actually wanted to be steady. Even after what happened in Season 3, Chuck was someone she hadn’t gotten over, in spite of spending quite a bit of time away from him.
So much like any regular teen, she put some of the best minds at work to investigate Chuck’s new lady love Eva and to research where she really came from. She even followed Eva one day on her errands because she was suspicious of her.
7 Wise Beyond Her Years: When She Saved Serena’s Reputation
When Serena was being accused by her professors of having an inappropriate relationship with a guest lecturer, Colin, Blair saved the day. Blair was aware that Serena and Colin had actually decided to wait so that they wouldn’t get in trouble and Serena really did like him. So, in order to save her friend’s reputation Blair quickly admitted that she was the one having a fling with Colin and not Serena.
Since Colin wasn’t her lecturer, she obviously wouldn’t face any consequences; no one would expect someone so young to actually put her reputation at stake to save a friend from humiliation but Blair behaved with a lot of sagacity.
6 Teenager: When She Bullied Jenny
Many fans have criticized how the show has often glamorized or glossed over incidents of systematic bullying. When Blair finds out that Jenny lost her virginity to Chuck she actually banishes her from Manhattan and actually makes sure she can’t stay in town.
This wasn’t just petty or childish but also quite sinister, because Jenny had family in Manhattan and every time she would come to town, she would be deathly nervous that Blair would make her life a living hell.
5 Wise Beyond Her Years: When She Took Her Royal Role Seriously
Blair was just 20 when she got engaged to Prince Louis of Monaco, and found out pretty quickly that marrying into a royal family isn’t just about living out her Grace of Monaco fantasies but actually involved a lot of hard work and tenacity. And Blair got amazingly serious about her future and attempted to get rid of all her toxic patterns so she would fit in with her future husband’s family and also seemed to understand the hard work that was required of her.
This of course, involved working on herself and making peace with some old nemesis, but Blair really did go out of her way so she wouldn't humiliate her family and Louis.
4 Teenager: When She Blamed Serena For Sage’s Shocking Antics
During Blair’s debut showcase, Sage, the daughter of Serena’s boyfriend Steven, shocked everyone when she took her clothes off and walked in her lingerie. The fact that she was a minor was, of course, very problematic. But instead of talking to Sage or trying to find out why she did what she did, she simply lashed out at Serena.
Blair assumed Serena had tried to sabotage her show because of her agenda against her, which was quite unfair and thoughtless because Sage’s antics was also quite humiliating for Serena, since Steven blamed her too.
3 Wise Beyond Her Years: Every Time She Warned Serena Of Dan’s Toxicity
Granted Blair herself had dated Dan very briefly and eventually became close friends, but Blair had an uncanny ability to sense when Serena was about to fall into her old patterns with Dan. Blair could see that Dan and Serena simply had too many issues and believed sincerely that they were misfit as a couple.
It’s also possible that Blair simply understood Dan’s hang-ups against the Upper East Siders and understood his angst better than Serena. For instance, in season 4, when Serena and Dan start hanging out as friends, Blair warns Serena that she is making the same old mistakes.
2 Teenager: When She Basically Wanted To Take Over Columbia
Blair can’t really exist in any ecosystem unless she is absolutely dominating it, and though it may sound typical teenage alpha angst, Blair really was the most resourceful person on the show, and could make anything happen. But it also showed how she never really left her Constance Billard days behind because she recruits the same old squad of followers to do her bidding.
She goes to extraordinary lengths to make an impression on her professors and get an edge over her peers and she even throws a lavish birthday party where she invites the whole faculty just so she could schmooze up to them. Basically, she did everything she probably did her first week at Constance Billard.
1 Wise Beyond Her Years: When She Agreed To Marry Louis
The fact that the self-serving Blair was ready to give up her happily ever after with her true love Chuck, just so she wouldn’t humiliate her family, is quite astounding.
Blair had been through an enormous trauma right before the wedding, as she lost a child, and in a way believed that marrying Louis and giving up Chuck would be her penance for her reckless decision to elope with Chuck, which led to their accident. Though this may sound messed up, Blair acted way beyond her years when she made up her mind to give up a future with Chuck.
