The daily gossip: The Golden Globes were both historic and awkward, Taylor Swift calls out Ginny & Georgia, and more - Yahoo News

The 2021 Golden Globes on Sunday were like none other, with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-hosting from separate locations and honorees staying at home due to the pandemic. It was an eventful — at at times, incredibly awkward! — ceremony. Nomadland, directed by Chloé Zhao, won Best Motion Picture (Drama), becoming the first movie directed by a woman to ever win the award. Zhao also took home the Best Director trophy, going into the history books as the first Asian woman — and just the second woman ever — to win the award. Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, an Amazon Studios release, won the Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy), and it marked the first time that one of the top two best picture Golden Globes went to a streaming service's film. Taylor Swift isn't shaking this one off: On Monday, the pop star called out Netflix's new dramedy, Ginny & Georgia, for using her name in a "lazy, deeply sexist" joke. In the season 1 finale, Ginny and her mom, Georgia, get into an argument, with Georgia snapping at her daughter, "What do you care? You go through men faster than Taylor Swift." Swift wasn't laughing: "Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back," she tweeted. "How about we stop degrading hard-working women by defining this horse s--t as FuNnY." Swift noted that she was doubly insulted, because Netflix is the home of her 2020 documentary Miss Americana, which looks critically at the negative portrayal of Swift's relationships by the media. "Happy Women's History Month, I guess," Swift said. [TVLine, Twitter]

In today's edition of "why would you ever want to be a celebrity," TMZ has a terrifying story about how a man crashed through the gates of Kim Kardashian's Hidden Hills home, telling the police he was trying to visit her. Thankfully, security "managed to stop" the 24-year-old trespasser "before he could get anywhere near Kim's place, and the sheriff was called," TMZ adds. It was only a few weeks ago that former Three's Company actress Suzanne Somers had an intruder interrupt her while she was doing a livestream makeup promotion from her home, all of which just goes to show: it's way more relaxing to be an anonymous nobody, and we should never take it for granted. There might not have been a physical red carpet for the virtual Golden Globes on Sunday night, but that didn't stop Anya Taylor-Joy from turning heads. The Queen's Gambit actress called into the ceremony from a hotel room, where she lounged in a green Dior Haute Couture dress and over $1 million of Tiffany & Co. diamonds — you know, as one does. Taylor-Joy didn't just win the night in fashion, but also took home a Golden Globe for Best Actress for her part in The Queen's Gambit; she was also nominated for her role in Emma, in the category of Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Musical or Comedy). But it was the 24-year-old's look that left The Cut entirely speechless: "Anya Taylor-Joy, just wow," the website wrote. [The Cut, Elle]

Former NFL linebacker and author Emmanuel Acho is set to officially take over for Bachelor host Chris Harrison on the upcoming "After the Final Rose" episode for Matt James' season. Harrison stepped aside last month following his defense of Bachelor contestant Rachael Kirkconnell, who attended a racially inappropriate plantation-themed fraternity party in 2018; Kirkconnell, meanwhile, has begged people not to defend her. The scandal renewed concerns about the Bachelor franchise's race-related issues, which the show is apparently trying to correct with Acho's inclusion. Acho, notably, is also the host of the online series "Uncomfortable Conversations with a Black Man," which Variety notes "serves to spark meaningful dialogue around racial ignorance." For The Bachelor, those uncomfortable conversations are long overdue. [Variety]
