The teen drama, adapted from a novel of the same name, chronicles the life of the privileged upper-class teen society in Manhattan. Thanks to its success, Gossip Girl catapulted Westwick's career to a whole new level and amassed over 18 Teen Choice Awards wins in the process.

However, the series ended in 2012, and the British star has ventured into many things since then. He's also found himself in the murky water of several controversies and lengthy courtroom battles over the past few years. 10 Landed A Role In 'Romeo & Juliet'

Ed Westwick's charismatic and heartthrob persona landed him a role in 2013's dramedy flick Romeo & Juliet. However, he didn't play Romeo Montague, as you may have expected. Instead, the Brit took on Tybalt's role, Juliet's short-tempered cousin and Romeo's nemesis, in the movie. Unfortunately, the movie was a commercial and critical flop, amassing only $3 million in the box office.

In BBC Two's White Gold, Ed Westwick leads "Cachet Windows," a group of UPVC salesmen in the mid-1980s, to thrive in the business market. The English-sitcom gained more international popularity after Netflix acquired the rights to air the show in 2017 and its second season in 2019. However, Westwick's ride wasn't a smooth one, because the show's production was once suspended when the leading actor found himself in several sexual assault allegations in November 2017.

8 Portrayed A Serial Killer In 'Wicked City'

Another impressive title to his acting portfolio, Ed Westwick also portrayed one-half of a Bonnie-and-Clyde-esque couple of serial killers. The series follows two LAPD detectives as they try to connect the missing links and solve the murder cases that the romantically-linked couple have committed.

Unfortunately, the series was another flop for Westwick. Despite its positive premise, ABC announced Wicked City's cancellation after airing only three episodes.

7 Involved In Lengthy Legal Battles

In 2017, as noted by The Hollywood Reporter, actress Kristina Cohen accused the Gossip Girl actor of sexual assault, which he vehemently denied. According to the actress, Westwick assaulted her in February 2014, during the darkest time of her life while she was trying to support her ill-fated mother who was sick with cancer. Cohen's mother passed three months after the alleged assault took place.

"I was so lost and needed someone to pull me out of there," she told THR, detailing their encounter where she'd been invited to Westwick's Hollywood house one day by a mutual friend.

6 Was Cut Out Of 'Ordeal By Innocence'

As a result of the accusations being thrown his way, Westwick's career started plummeting. BBC decided to drop the actor from its Agatha Christie-written Ordeal By Innocence, after they were made aware of a number of sexual assault allegations that were made against him. Another actor, Christian Cooke, would reprise his role and reshoot his footage later.

5 Played A U.S. Commander During World War 2 In 'Enemy Lines'

For now, some of his latest works include Enemy Lines, a 2020 World War II-flick where he plays U.S. Marine Major Kaminski, as he attempts to kidnap a scientist from the Germans in Poland. Portraying such an eccentric role requires a lot of mental and physical training, as the actor exclusively told Distractify.

4 Reprised His Gossip Girl Role For A TikTok Challenge

Ed Westwick is one of the latest stars to hop on the TikTok trend by bringing back his Chuck Bass character. Wearing a leather sherpa jacket, the star challenged his fans to recreate some of the most iconic moments of Gossip Girl.

"Tell me you watched Gossip Girl without actually telling me you've watched Gossip Girl. I'll start," said the actor before the video cuts to him sitting and uttering his charismatic, businessman catchphrase, "I'm Chuck Bass."

3 Enjoyed South Africa

Earlier this year, the star flew to South Africa with his sweetheart, 24-year-old model Tamara Francesconi. The brunette beauty, who is a proudly South African and a lavish travel advisor, took the actor to meet her family in Cape Town to celebrate their one-year anniversary. The two also spent some time together at the luxurious Four Seasons Hotel The Westcliff in Johannesburg.

Career-wise, Westwick is still actively filling up roles. His last role on Me, You, Madness was just released on STXfilms in February 2021. He shared the stage with Cabin Fever actress Louise Linton. The movie itself chronicles a thief in search of a new house to rob before he finds out that it shelters a female serial killer.
