Gossip Girl Reboot: Premiere Date, Cast, How to Watch - Parade

Hey there Upper East Siders, Gossip Girl is coming back. That’s right, the iconic series that originally aired from 2007 until 2012 on the CW starring Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford and Penn Badgley is returning with a new crop of students from Constance Billard and St. Jude’s.

“It’s a new take on it, a different time,” cast member Emily Alyn Lind shared in an interview with Dazed. “It’s not a reboot, it’s a continuation, so we have an entirely new story and I think that’s really important.”

According to Jordan Alexander, one of the show’s new leads, the upcoming series is “staying true to the essence of Gossip Girl but with a completely different take on it.”

We have all the scoop on the new Gossip Girl series, plus some behind-the-scenes photos of the new cast.

Where to watch the Gossip Girl reboot

The series will be available on HBO Max.

When does the Gossip Girl reboot premiere?

That’s one secret Gossip Girl hasn’t revealed just yet. The show’s official Instagram account replied to a fan who asked about the premiere date in February writing, “Wish i could, but that’s one secret i can’t tell just yet.”

Who is in the new Gossip Girl cast?

Move over Serena and Blair, new private school teens have been spotted on the steps of the Met. The fabulous HBO Max cast includes Whitney Peak (Zoya Lott), Evan Mock (Akeno “Aki” Menzies), Tavi Gevinson (Kate Keller), Emily Alyn Lind (Audrey Hope), Thomas Doherty (Max Wolfe), Eli Brown (Otto “Obie” Bergmann IV), Zion Moreno (Luna La), Savannah Smith (Monet de Haan) and Jordan Alexander (Julien Calloway).

During a Twitter AMA, executive producer Joshua Safran revealed that the biggest difference between the old and new Gossip Girl that he is most proud of is “the majority of characters being diverse and/or queer.”

Will Blake Lively and Leighton Meester be in the Gossip Girl reboot?

Don’t expect a cameo from Serena. E! News reported in 2020 that Lively is “not taking part in the series in any way, shape or form.”

We don’t have news on whether Meester will be involved yet.

Will anyone from the original Gossip Girl cast return?

One star is set to reprise her role: Kristen Bell, who narrated as Gossip Girl. “Kristen Bell has always been and will always be the voice of Gossip Girl,” producers said in a previous statement (via The Hollywood Reporter).

The door has also been left open for the rest of the original cast. “We’ve reached out to all of them to let them know it was happening and we’d love for them to be involved if they want to be involved, but certainly didn’t want to make it contingent upon [them being involved],” executive producer Josh Schwartz said (via Entertainment Tonight). “They played these characters for six years, and if they felt like they were good with that, we want to respect that, but obviously…it would be great to see them again.”

Meanwhile, Crawford has expressed interest in making a cameo in a reboot. “I would absolutely cameo,” he told Digital Spy in 2019. “I’d have to!”

When is the new Gossip Girl set?

The Max Original series is set eight years after the original website went dark.

What will the new Gossip Girl be about and are there any spoilers?

A new generation of New York teenagers will be under the social surveillance of Gossip Girl, per the show’s logline (via Deadline). The series “will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed in the intervening years.”

Safran shared on Twitter that the upcoming series “is very, very queer.” The series will have “a lot of representation,” according to Peak. Lind told Dazed that Gossip Girl will also normalize “things that used to be different or taboo” and “gender roles will be talked about and dissected.”

She added, “A lot of the women in our show are very powerful, but I think they were in the original as well. We’ll be exploring what it means to be a woman in this generation, and in general, exploring ideas that we didn’t before.”

How many episodes of Gossip Girl will there be?
