blogsjga.blogspot.com

June is Pride Month, and now is as good a time as any to come out and live your truth. But Pride Month isn't the only time to be exactly who you are or to come out. Last year, we saw numerous celebrities come out including actors, musicians, reality TV stars, athletes and more. This year is no different. Many others are showing their support as allies.

Recently, a lot of celebrities have said they are a part of the LGBTQ+ community. Although someone's sexual orientation should no longer be news, when celebrities come out they inspire their fans, too, and really help people feel more comfortable in their own skin and allow them to be who they are.

Stars like Ellen DeGeneres, Lance Bass and Neil Patrick Harris have been living loud and proud in Hollywood and have inspired their fans to do the same. Find out which celebrities proudly and publicly came out recently and what their gender or sexual orientation is.

10 Demi Lovato

Two-time Grammy nominee, Demi Lovato made an announcement in May that they identify as non-binary and are changing their pronouns to they/them. In the first episode of their new podcast called 4D, Demi said, "Over the past year and a half, I've been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I've had the revelation that I identify as nonbinary. With that said, I'll be officially changing my pronouns to they/them." They also recently announced they identify as pansexual.

9 Larry Saperstein

Larry Saperstein plays Big Red on the Disney+ show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series. Now, well into season 2, his character and his schoolmate Ashlyn are in a relationship. Well, a few days ago, Saperstein made a TikTok video that said, "Plays a character with a girlfriend, is bi irl." Before that no one knew of the actor's sexual orientation, so that was his official coming out video.

8 Sophie Turner

All hail the queen of the north! Many celebrities celebrated pride month. Some showed support while others showed pride and others came out. Sophie Turner made an Instagram story with the words, "It's muthaf***** pride month baby!" and a sticker that said "bi pride" and "time isn't straight and neither am I." Now, she didn't explicitly say she was coming out, but people jumped to conclusions and assumed. Her husband, Joe Jonas and his brothers has been supportive of the LGBTQ+ community and hopefully supportive of her.

7 Joshua Bassett

Back in May, Joshua Bassett did an interview with Clevver News. During that time they asked him about Harry Styles, and his response was basically what everyone also thinks about the former One Direction singer.

“He’s cool, he’s just cool…who doesn’t think Harry Styles is cool? Also, he’s hot, you know?… He’s very charming too. Lots of things.” After stammering on his words, he continued. “This is also my coming out video, I guess.” Some people took it as a joke, but then he posted to his social media to confirm he wasn't. While Bassett never explicitly said what he identifies as, many people assume he is bisexual.

6 Dove Cameron

After fans believed she was queerbaiting when she put same sex couples in her "We Belong" video, Dove Cameron came out in an Instagram live video. Although she initially came out as bisexual, she claims that she identifies more as queer. Speaking with Gay Times, Dove Cameron said that she was afraid to come out in fear of not being accepted for who she is, and that people wouldn't believe her. But since she has come out, her Twitter and Instagram have been filled with nothing but support and fans' coming out stories.

5 Elliot Page

Elliot Page, who used to go by Ellen Page, star of "Juno," "There's Something In The Water," and many other films, came out as transgender earlier this year. Taking to social media to make the post, he said, "Hi friends, I want to share with you that I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life. I feel overwhelming gratitude for the incredible people who have supported me along this journey." They shared a picture of themself in swim trunks and no shirt, showing off abs, and he has never looked happier.

4 JoJo Siwa

Back in January, Jojo Siwa came out as pansexual and started an uproar on the internet. She shared a picture of herself wearing a shirt that said, "The gay cousin." However, parents of fans became mad, because they didn't believe she was showing a great example to their children. But the YouTuber has not listened to the haters and has said, she "has never been happier" since coming out.

3 Colton Underwood

This is a first! Former The Bachelor star Colton Underwood came out as gay. He didn't think he'd ever come out, pushed in that direction by his church and conservative, small-town. But Underwood made headlines when he came out to Robin Roberts in a Good Morning America interview. The only other person he told before that was his publicist. However, after being blackmailed, he decided to come out, not by pride but because of fear.

2 Kehlani

The singer has said in the past has long identified as queer and bisexual, but recently she came out as lesbian in a Tiktok video on April 22. In the video, she said, "I am gay, gay, gay. I finally know I am a lesbian." Kehlani also goes by she/they pronouns. They joked about coming out to their family, who said, "We know. Duh." It didn't come to a shock to fans either, as she has always been a member and advocate of the LGBTQ+ community.

1 Alexandra Shipp

The Love, Simon actress celebrated Pride Month by officially coming out. She used to be scared about what people would think of her if she ever revealed that side, but then finally took to Instagram to come out. Along with coming out, Shipp has starred in Hayley Kiyoko's music video for her single, "Chance." Kiyoko is also gay and is a big icon in the gay community. Congrats to Shipp for living her truth!
