Gossip Girl reboot creator promises original cast cameos - Digital Spy

HBO Max's reboot of the iconic show Gossip Girl will feature more cameos of actors from the original CW series when the show returns for the second half of the season in the autumn.

Reboot creator Joshua Safran explained to TheWrap that though none of the original cast will return as their characters, some will be making appearances here and there.

He said, "There's no series regular from the original coming back. Maybe that's not true, sorry. None of the core five or six kids are in the back half, but there are cameos from original cast members and there are references [to the original]."

"Even just as simple as episode seven is a Thanksgiving episode, and you know, Thanksgiving on Gossip Girl, it's a traditional event on our show and a traditional event in the world," Safran continued.

The reboot featured a few cameos in the first half of their season, including Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang) and Georgina Sparks (Michelle Trachtenberg), both of whom were minor characters in the original.

The series did directly reference previous characters, including Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester), Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick), Serena Van Der Woodsen (Blake Lively), Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) and Nate Archibald (Chace Crawford), but none of them appeared.

Though the Gossip Girl reboot has references and similar storylines to the original, it has been confirmed that the new generation will not be participating in cotillion like Blair and Serena did this season.

"You will not see cotillion this season," Safran said. "I definitely do not rule out cotillion in the future, but this show takes place between September and December. And if I recall correctly, when we looked up cotillion, maybe — I don't know why. It didn't fall then, or maybe we just decided not to do it this time around."

The new episodes of Gossip Girl will be premiering on HBO Max in November.
