Here are all the important details about Gossip Girl season 1 part 2, including the release date, potential cameos, and story details. Based on the teen drama of the same name, HBO Max’s reboot of Gossip Girl takes place nearly a decade after the conclusion of the original series. It follows a new cast of Manhattan private schoolers that fall under the watchful eye of Gossip Girl, demonstrating how social media has changed in the intervening years.
Although it takes place in the same universe as the original, and includes key members of the original’s writing team, the reboot sets itself apart in a few ways. The cast is comprised of diverse young stars and, unlike with its predecessor, the reboot quickly reveals the identity of the titular character to be a group of teachers looking to humble their privileged students. This has led to a host of problems for both the students and the teachers themselves, culminating in a busy mid-season finale.
Fans won’t have to wait long to see the fallout, as Gossip Girl season 1, part 2 will be releasing on HBO Max soon. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming return of the reboot.
Gossip Girl Season 1, Part 2 Release Date
It was announced on August 12th that Gossip Girl season 1, part 2 will debut the remaining six episodes in November 2021. Although an exact premiere date has not been set for part 2, it is expected that the episodes will continue to follow a weekly release schedule.
Gossip Girl Season 1, Part 2 Cast
Given how the first half of Gossip Girl season 1 ended with many storylines yet to be resolved, it’s a safe bet that all of the reboot’s large ensemble cast will be back for the upcoming six episodes. That includes the series regulars Jordan Alexander as Julien Calloway, Whitney Peak as Zoya Lott, Tavi Gevinson as Kate Keller, Eli Brown as Otto “Obie” Bergmann IV, Thomas Doherty as Max Wolfe, Emily Alyn Lind as Audrey Hope, Evan Mock as Akeno “Aki” Menzies, Zión Moreno as Luna La, and Savannah Lee Smith as Monet De Haan. Additionally, according to executive producer and showrunner Joshua Safran, Gossip Girl part 2 will feature cameos and callbacks from the original series. However, Safran made sure to stress that the cameos won’t include any of the original’s main stars.
Gossip Girl Season 1, Part 2 Story Details
The first half of the Gossip Girl ended with several teases for what the rest of the season would bring. Julien, struggling with how to establish herself as an influencer, reconnects with her ex-boyfriend Obie and the two share a kiss during a pivotal scene. This is sure to further complicate Julien’s relationship with her half-sister, Zoya, who is currently dating Obie. The fluctuations between the two half-siblings, as they shift between supporting each other and feuding with one another, has been the reboot’s central conflict. In another love triangle of sorts, a threesome finally takes place between Aki, Audrey, and Max. This comes about as Audrey also deals with her mother’s attempted suicide attempt. Max, nonetheless, has his own concerns. He’s still being harassed by Rafa (Jason Gotay), a teacher who gets angry and vengeful after falling out with Max. In an effort to get the upper hand, he convinces Kate that he should help run the Gossip Girl account again.
Kate, for her part, gets a taste of her own medicine. A photo of her date with Zoya’s father Nick (Johnathan Fernandez) gets posted online by Jordan (Adam Chanler-Berat), a fellow teacher who has also helped run the account in the past. With the supposed adults of the series engaged in their own destructive rivalries, it’s safe to say that the teenagers won’t be spared. Safran has also noted that the one of the upcoming episodes will be a Thanksgiving episode, which is a staple of the original Gossip Girl. All and all, fans will have plenty to look forward to.
