When the Gossip Girl reboot makes its planned return to HBO Max in November, there'll be a new face for the all-knowing narrator to keep tabs on. Kathryn Gallagher, who You fans might recognize as Anika Atwater, is joining the GG cast, and she's taking on a very important role.
Back in September, GG showrunner Josh Safran shared with Palyfest attendees that Kathryn had been cast as Obie's (Eli Brown) sister. There's no further word on how her character with fit in alongside the other Upper East Siders, but Josh did tease that “a lot of fun things were coming up.”
Kathryn isn't the first from You to make the crossover to Gossip Girl. Elizabeth Lail made her debut on the HBO Max series in some of its first episodes, portraying Lola Morgan, the singer dating Julien's father.
News of Kathryn's casting was made public with the online debut of the Palyfest panel this weekend, and the actor has already celebrated the news. Retweeting the announcement of her new role, the former You star totally nailed her first GG test, writing a simple, “xoxo.”
As of yet, there's been no new trailer released for the upcoming Gossip Girl return, but the second part of season one certainly has a lot of unanswered questions to tackle. As for Obie, when fans last saw the character, he was locking lips with his on again-off again love interest, Julien.
Premiering earlier this year, the Gossip Girl revival had long promised to differ from its predecessor. Along with its adherence to incorporate more LGBTQ+ content and people of color, GG has included a few tributes to its past and some surprise guest appearances.
