Transfer Gossip: Liverpool want midfielder from 'Big Six' rival to form devastating Bellingham partnership - TEAMtalk

Liverpool have begun targeting a move for a big-name Chelsea star as they look to bring in a second midfielder alongside Jude Bellingham, Tottenham will have to fend off a new club for one of their attackers after the race for his signature got busy, while Friday’s Transfer Gossip claims West Ham are looking at a Ligue 1 forward.

LIVERPOOL PLOT CHELSEA RAID

Liverpool have taken a keen interest in Chelsea’s contract discussions with Mason Mount and will swoop in if the England star becomes available, according to a report.

Chelsea have been in talks with Mount and his entourage for some time now. On February 11, the Daily Mail revealed there to be a contract ‘impasse’ between the two parties. They are some way apart in terms of wages and this has left Chelsea pretty much ‘resigned’ to losing him in the near future. His current deal expires in summer 2024.

According to an update from ESPN, Liverpool are interested in signing Mount. They believe they can get him for a reduced price once he enters the final 12 months of his Blues contract.

ESPN write that there has been ‘little progress’ made between Chelsea and the 24-year-old. This is not just down to wages, as Mount also has concerns about penning an incredibly long deal at Stamford Bridge. This is something which has become customary under the ownership of Todd Boehly.

Liverpool’s problems in midfield are well documented, and Mount might be one of the players to arrive at Anfield as a solution. Jurgen Klopp could end up having a devastating midfield at his disposal as the Reds are also leading the charge for Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund. Liverpool are thought to be Bellingham’s preferred next club, despite interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Mount has not been at his best this season. After registering 13 goals and 16 assists last season, he has only managed three goals and six assists in 30 matches this term. It seems he is struggling to deal with the plethora of new signings that have joined Graham Potter’s squad.

Nevertheless, Klopp will have confidence he can get Mount back to his best, helping him to become one of the top attacking midfielders in the Premier League once again. And this will become far more likely if the Chelsea academy graduate is partnered with Bellingham in midfield. After all, despite being just 19, Bellingham is already a leader in the dressing room who can inspire other players. Plus, Mount and Bellingham know each other well from their time in the England setup.

Liverpool will not have it all their own way when it comes to signing Mount, however. ESPN state that competition will arrive from fellow Premier League giants City and Man Utd. Both of those clubs are ‘monitoring’ Mount’s situation as well, setting up a potential three-club transfer battle.

Amid all of this, Chelsea officials are working hard to tie Mount down. Losing him would be an embarrassment, especially if he went on to join another English club. But currently there is some distance between what Chelsea are offering and what the star is happy to sign.

PSG BECOME LATEST CLUB TO HUNT TOTTENHAM MAN

Real Madrid are not the only European heavyweight taking an interest in Tottenham forward Richarlison, with reports now claiming Paris Saint-Germain have joined the pursuit.

Tottenham spent an initial £50million, plus £10m in potential add-ons, to sign Richarlison from Everton in July last year. The Brazilian arrived at the club to compete with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski for a spot in attack.

He has not been a roaring success, with only two goals coming in 20 matches. But Richarlison’s form has been hampered by injuries, while it was always going to be tough to replace one of Antonio Conte’s front three.

Now he is back fit, Richarlison is expected to play an important role in the run-in for Spurs as they look to make the Prem’s top four and go far in their remaining cup competitions. They are the FA Cup and Champions League.

However, there is now the prospect of Richarlison leaving north London once the season ends. On Monday, it emerged that Real are aiming to land the 25-year-old to bolster their attacking options.

And The Hard Tackle, who cite reports coming out of Spain, claim PSG have also begun chasing Richarlison.

The French giants are worried about Neymar potentially leaving. As such, they have landed on Richarlison as a potential replacement.

This is not the first time PSG have hunted Richarlison. Before Kylian Mbappe signed his new PSG contract in May 2022, PSG officials looked at Richarlison as a possible successor up front.

They are now back on the chase for him and could enter negotiations with Spurs in the next few months.

Despite interest from Real and PSG, it is hard to see Richarlison leaving Spurs this summer. Chairman Daniel Levy has only just spent upwards of £50m on him, so he will want to keep the striker on his books for a few more years before allowing an exit to happen.

In addition, Richarlison’s disappointing form means Real and PSG are unlikely to bid £50-60m for him. And with Levy known to be a tough negotiator, he will never sell Richarlison at a loss just one year on from his arrival.

WEST HAM TUSSLE WITH SOUTHAMPTON OVER GOALSCORER

West Ham are rivalling Southampton for the signing of OGC Nice centre-forward Terem Moffi, according to a report.

Moffi is enjoying a great season in Ligue 1, having bagged 12 goals in 20 appearances thus far. That includes strikes during matches against Monaco and Marseille last month.

The 23-year-old is on loan at Nice from FC Lorient. And Nice have the obligation to make the deal permanent for €22.5m (£20m) this summer, according to transfermarkt.

But Moffi’s time at Nice could be short-lived amid claims Premier League clubs are lining up to capture him.

Football Insider believe West Ham and Southampton are both interested in snapping Moffi up during the summer transfer window.

The two clubs will wait until his switch to Nice is made permanent before making their move.

West Ham and Southampton had been looking at the Nigerian during the January window, only to lose out to Nice.

They remain in contact with his agent though and are getting positive feedback about the player moving to England.

The report does not reveal exactly how much West Ham or Southampton would have to spend on Moffi. But Nice would probably want more than the £20m they are going to pay for him later this year.

And there could be a considerable rise in his price tag if his impressive form continues.

West Ham have only recently signed Gianluca Scamacca to compete with Michail Antonio for a place up front. However, Scamacca is yet to hit the heights expected of him. Antonio, meanwhile, is 32 years of age. As such, the Hammers could probably do with landing a younger replacement.

Southampton have struggled in front of goal this campaign. They have only scored 18 times in 22 league outings, which is one of the reasons why they are at the foot of the table.

This explains why they want a reliable goalscorer such as Moffi. Although, the Saints will have to drag themselves out of the bottom three if Moffi is to join. He will not want to transfer from Ligue 1 to the Championship when his career is on the up.
