"Gossip Girl" Reboot Rumors: What We Know - Seventeen

Will Gossip Girl spill her latest secret? On May 16, the notorious gossip blogger, also known as “your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan’s elite,” returned to Instagram after months of silence to drop a photo of the original Gossip Girl cast.

“Welcome back, Upper East Siders. After a long time away, I see it didn’t take much time for you to dirty up the clean slates I gave you,” the caption reads.

Ummmm, what?!? It’s been nine years since the cameras stopped rolling on the original Gossip Girl, which premiered on The CW in 2007. But this new post suggests that Serena van der Woodsen, Blair Waldorf, Dan Humphrey, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald, and other OG Upper East Siders could make a comeback soon. And if you weren’t already spiraling over this unexpected post, yes, the actors are tagged, including Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, and Penn Badgley.

ICYMI, HBO Max rebooted the iconic series in 2021 with an entirely new cast of Constance Billard and St. Jude’s students. But the reboot was canceled in January 2023 after two seasons. In an Instagram post announcing the series’ end, showrunner Joshua Safran hoped that the revival would find a home on another network or streamer, but a new platform hasn’t been announced.

Under this latest post, DeuxMoi (who’s often referred to as Instagram’s Gossip Girl) simply commented “WHAT.” The official Bratz account wrote, “Besties.. what is happening 😱,” while another fan asked, “WHAT'S HAPPENING OMG PLEASE TELL US.” (But seriously, pls, we need answers.)

The only main OG cast member to appear in the reboot series was Georgina Sparks, portrayed by Michelle Trachtenberg. But that doesn’t mean the others aren’t interested in reprising their roles. In 2017, Blake had a “never say never” approach when asked about a return to the Upper East Side by Variety.

“It sort of all depends. Would I do seven years of the show? No, because it’s hard work and I’ve got my babies, and I don’t want to be away from them that much. But I’ve just learned in life you never say never,” she said. “Who knows — if it was good, if it made sense. We had so much fun shooting and living and working in New York City.” XOXO.
