Bayern Munich might reach a breakthrough in talks with Spurs over Harry Kane if they put a buy-back clause into a deal which would break multiple records.
BABY BYE BYE BUY-BACK
Happy birthday to Sir Harold Edward Kane MBE, who turns 30 on Friday. And fair play to Bayern Munich, who have sent him the present of renewed hope that he could leave Spurs.
The Bundesliga giants have their best men on the case, deploying chief executive Jan-Christian Dreesen and technical director Marco Neppe to London for crunch talks with Daniel Levy on Friday, the Spurs supremo having been told to secure a sale for Kane if he cannot be persuaded to sign a new contract.
Settling on a fee has been quite the problem thus far, with Bayern’s bids of £60m and £70m being rejected. Thomas Tuchel’s side are ‘likely to offer’ £86m next, according to The Sun, who add that Spurs may ‘hold out for’ £100m.
That figure would make Kane the most expensive 30-year-old ever and the most expensive transfer in both Bayern and Tottenham’s history.
The MailOnline report that ‘the feeling is Spurs are shifting towards a fee they will accept,’ while there is an interesting line at the bottom of Matt Law’s Daily Telegraph update:
There have even been suggestions that Bayern would agree to a buy-back option for Tottenham in a bid to land Kane this summer, which could help to satisfy all parties.
Law is in with Team Kane so that titbit is interesting. Kane to join Bayern, win a few trophies and come back in a couple of years to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League scoring record?

ON GVARD
An equally protracted transfer is that of Josko Gvardiol to Manchester City. The Premier League champions have been set a ‘two-week deadline’ to complete the move by Leipzig.
The Germans ‘want to finalise coach Marco Rose’s squad before they meet Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup on August 12,’ according to the Daily Mail, so want Gvardiol’s future sorted either way by then.
Manchester City likely share that desire, considering they kick their campaign off against Burnley a day before.
Pep Guardiola’s side have theoretically met Leipzig’s £87m demands – a world-record fee for a defender – but that package includes £10m in ‘add-ons that Leipzig feel are unrealistic’.

And that begs the question: what on earth could they be? Manchester City win literally everything; have they put in some clauses about Gvardiol winning five Ballons d’Or?
Leipzig, for their part, are ‘delighted’ with Gvardiol as he hasn’t ‘been trying to force them to sell’ despite being ‘keen to join’ Manchester City. It does feel as though a deal will be struck soon.
WARD AND PEACE
West Ham’s rampant efforts to spend none of the Declan Rice money continues unabated with another rejected bid.
A £25m offer for James Ward-Prowse never was going to be accepted by Southampton, to be fair. And it has gone much the same way as the £40m bids for both Joao Palhinha and Conor Gallagher.
But Saints director of football Jason Wilcox has let The Sun know where he and his employers stand:
Have we rejected the bid? Yep. Is there another offer? Not as I know.
I think when a club makes an offer, very rarely is it their full and final offer. If we get the right offer, we will consider it. Consider is an important word because we don’t have to sell. We’re a big football club. We’re not going to allow players to leave if we don’t feel it’s a win-win.
While £40m would probably do it, Ward-Prowse really isn’t a Rice replacement at all.
