The daily gossip: August 10, 2023 - The Week

The internet personality known as "foul-mouthed" and "braggadocious" rapper Lil Tay, per The Guardian, is actually "safe and alive," she said in a statement to TMZ, one day after a post claiming both she and her brother had died cropped up on her Instagram. "I want to make it clear that my brother and I are safe and alive, but I'm completely heartbroken, and struggling to even find the right words to say," the rapper said in her alleged statement. "It's been a very traumatizing 24 hours." She goes on to explain that her Instagram was "compromised by a 3rd party and used to spread jarring misinformation and rumors regarding me, to the point that even my name was wrong. My legal name is Tay Tian, not 'Claire Hope.'" The original post has now been deleted. Now 15, Lil Tay was only 9 when she first went viral posting "rowdy videos of herself boasting about being rich and owning expensive cars," Variety explained. But there have been concerns over her safety and family life in recent years — in 2018, her Instagram was "wiped clean, and the words 'help me' were posted to her story."
