A new book by the owners of Logee's Greenhouses in Danielson encourages readers to eat their houseplants, and none other than Martha Stewart endorses the message. "Edible Houseplants," by Laurelynn G. Martin and Byron A. Martin comes out Sept. 12 from Storey Publishing.

The book focuses on trees that can grow indoors and yield edible harvests, such as citrus and tropical fruits, tea, peppercorn, cinnamon and more. It provides a handful of recipes, and instructions on how to care for these plants. It also details which plants require more and less light, as well as those that are easier for beginners.

“Because of the Martins, I now grow my own oranges, lemons, grapefruits, limes, carambola, coffee beans, calamondins, papaya, vanilla, passion fruit, figs and guava," Stewart wrote in her blurb about the book. "I rely on them for advice about the care of these extraordinary plants.”
