Gossip Girl signed off with a final "XOXO" in 2012, but the cast has been busy in the decade following the hit teen drama series. The show first premiered in 2007 and ran for six seasons on The CW. Gossip Girl tells the story of a group of privileged teenagers residing on the Upper East Side of New York City. It chronicles their struggles as they navigate the complexities of adolescence while under the constant surveillance of an anonymous online blogger known only as "Gossip Girl." The show was ahead of its time when it comes to technology, social media, and discussions about privacy.

Gossip Girl was created by Joshua Ian Schwartz, based on a book series by Cecily von Ziegesar. The TV adaptation became a huge hit, and its style and cultural impact is still evident on-screen today. The show received 36 award nominations and 21 wins. The success of the original series led to the creation of a Gossip Girl reboot with a new cast in 2021, but it failed to live up to fans' expectations. The Gossip Girl reboot didn't work, and HBO canceled it after two seasons. By contrast, the original Gossip Girl launched the careers of its cast, with many of its stars seeing success.

6 Blake Lively (Serena van der Woodsen)

Blake Lively then and now Gossip Girl

Blake Lively starred as "It Girl" Serena van der Woodsen, the main character in Gossip Girl. In the first episode, Serena abruptly returns home to Manhattan's Upper East Side after a mysterious stay at a Connecticut boarding school. Throughout the series, the popular socialite is most known for her impeccable fashion sense, on-again/off-again relationship with Dan Humphrey, and her complicated friendship with Blair Waldorf. Despite her privilege, Serena often finds herself in the middle of drama, attempting to navigate her difficult life while under constant surveillance and scrutiny.

When Blake Lively landed the role of Serena in Gossip Girl, she was best known for her role in the movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. From 2007 to 2010, Blake Lively dated costar and on-screen boyfriend Penn Badgley. She went on to star in many other films, including The Town, The Green Lantern, Savages, The Age of Adaline, The Shallows, and A Simple Favor. In 2021, Lively directed her friend Taylor Swift's music video for "I Bet You Think About Me." Lively and Ryan Reynolds, who met on the set of Green Lantern in 2010, have been married since 2012 and have four children together.

5 Penn Badgley (Dan Humphrey)

Penn B

Penn Badgley starred as Gossip Girl's Dan Humphrey. Dan Humphrey is the brother of Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) and one of the main characters of the series. A writer and poet, Humphrey is an outsider among his wealthy classmates. From the very first episode, it is clear that Dan is smitten with Serena van der Woodsen. Over time, their crushes for each other develop into the longest-running relationship in the series. However, in the shocking finale, it is revealed that Dan Humphrey is Gossip Girl.

Before playing "Lonely Boy" Dan Humphrey, Penn Badgley had already starred in various television and film roles, such as The Young and the Restless and John Tucker Must Die. After Gossip Girl, he played singer Jeff Buckley in the film Greetings from Tim Buckley. A musician himself, Badgley formed the Brooklyn-based band MOTHXR in 2013. Badgley's role as Joe Goldberg in the Netflix series You, based on Caroline Kepnes's novel, has garnered massive success. You season 5 is confirmed and expected to be released in 2024. In 2017, Badgley married singer-songwriter Domino Kirke, and the two share a son. Badgley is currently co-host of the podcast Podcrushed.

4 Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf)

Meester

Leighton Meester starred as Gossip Girl's Blair Waldorf, best friend to Serena. A socialite and fashionista, Blair is known for her bossy attitude, witty comebacks, and her reputation as an overachiever. At the beginning of the series, Blair is romantically involved with longtime boyfriend Nate Archibald. As the show progresses, Blair falls in love with Nate's best friend, playboy Chuck Bass. Aside from Serena and Dan's complicated partnership, Blair and Chuck's relationship timeline is one of the main storylines throughout the series.

After playing Blair Woldorf, Leighton Meester starred in many films, including That’s My Boy, Life Partners, By the Gun, and The Weekend Away. She also starred in television roles, including Fox's Making History and ABC’s Single Parents. In 2014, the Gossip Girl star made her debut on Broadway in the play Of Mice and Men. Also a musician, in 2014, Meester released her debut acoustic studio album Heartstrings. Meester married The O.C. star, Adam Brody, in 2014, and the couple have two children together. She also appeared in Hulu's How I Met Your Father.

3 Ed Westwick (Chuck Bass)

Ed Westwick portrayed Chuck Bass, the bad boy of the Gossip Girl cast and best friend to Nate Archibald. Chuck is the child of a self-made billionaire and owner of The New York Palace Hotel. In the first two seasons, Chuck is portrayed as a self-centered, manipulative womanizer. However, as the series progresses, he develops more depth and complexity to his character. This transformation is most apparent in his on-again/off-again romance with Blair, which eventually culminates in marriage.

After playing hotel heir and womanizing bad boy Chuck Bass on Gossip Girl, Ed Westwick starred in ABC’s Wicked City in 2015, which was canceled after only three episodes. He appeared in various films in the years that followed, including Romeo & Juliet, Freaks of Nature, Billionaire Ransom, The Crash, Snatch, and Enemy Lines. From 2017-2019, Ed Westwick starred as Victor Swan in the BBC series White Gold from 2017-2019, which was distributed by Netflix. Since then, he's starred in the films Wolves of War and Deep Fear.

2 Chace Crawford (Nate Archibald)

Nate Archibald

Chase Crawford portrayed Nate Archibald, Gossip Girl's charming "Golden Boy." Nate Archibald is an athlete, socialite, and member of the Vanderbilt family. Nate is best friends with Chuck and is considered to be the "Boy Next Door." Despite having numerous relationships throughout the series (beginning with Blair Waldorf), Nate ends up single by the finale. Nate takes an interest in politics, and by the finale, he expresses his intentions of running for mayor of New York.

Following his role as Nate Archibald in Gossip Girl, Chace Crawford starred in ABC's soap opera Blood and Oil in 2015, which only lasted one season. In 2016, Crawford starred in and executive produced the baseball film Undrafted. After that, he has starred in several other films, including Eloise, I Do… Until I Don't, All About Nina, Charlie Says, Nighthawks, and Inheritance. From 2019 to 2022, Crawford starred in the successful Amazon Prime superhero series The Boys as The Deep and made an appearance in the spinoff show Gen V.

1 Taylor Momsen (Jenny Humphrey)

Taylor Momsen played Dan Humphrey's little sister, Jenny Humphrey, on Gossip Girl. Jenny begins the show rather timid, but as the series progresses, she starts climbing the social ladder. Jenny's journey throughout the show was one of self-discovery. Initially, Jenny constantly sought attention and approval from Blair, but as the show progressed, Jenny grew more confident and independent. With a newfound interest in clothing design, Jenny moved in with her mother in Hudson, New York. By the season finale, she was working for Waldorf Designs, having acquired her clothing line titled "J For Waldorf."

Before her role as Jenny, she notably played Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 live-action adaptation of How The Grinch Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey. Since Gossip Girl, Momsen has left acting to focus solely on her music career. Taylor has been the frontwoman of the hard rock group The Pretty Reckless since forming the band in 2009. The band has released four studio albums to date: Light Me Up, Going to Hell, Who You Selling For, and Death by Rock and Roll.
