Man Uses Translator App To Listen In To His Vietnamese Wife Gossiping About Him On The Phone - YourTango

At one point or another, all of us have probably gossipped about our significant others. Even when we love them, sometimes our partners will make a poor choice, or do something annoying. It’s only human!

For most of us, we have to take these conversations to another room, but for some couples, a different language can make it perfectly easy to gossip right in front of your S.O.

At least… until they figure it out.

RELATED: Couples Who Have The Healthiest Relationships Already Do These 10 Things

One TikTok user found a way to uncover his wife’s gossip by downloading a translator app, and putting it to the test on camera.

The TikTok user walks into their kitchen to see his wife on the phone as she cooks, telling a story in Vietnamese. After stepping out of her line of sight, the husband holds out his phone to listen and translate the story she is sharing.

RELATED: Spread The Word: Science Says Gossip Is Good For You — Seriously!

The translator picks it up quickly, and repeats back in English a story about him leaving the toilet seat up!

"My husband had gone to the bathroom in the morning and he wouldn't wake up the toilet," the translator app reads, misinterpreting a word here and there.

The man's wife appears to be saying that, when she went to the bathroom, she ended up slipping into the toilet because of the raise toilet seat.

"This little thing makes it frustrating," the app concludes.

His wife hears the translation and turns around to see what’s going on, her expression turning shocked as she realizes what’s happening.

The husband laughs behind the camera and asks if she’s embarrassed as she quickly denies telling the story that way.

“I [didn’t] say it like that,” she protests. “The toilet [said] that, not me.”

Most of the commenters agree: it’s a funny video about a harmless complaint.

The husband is laughing, not upset about his discovery, and other Tik Tok users in the comments are in agreement; he’s the one that left the seat up!

One user even comments: “He’s the one that should be embarrassed”

Although it’s definitely awkward to get caught in the act of venting about your partner, I think most of us can relate in one way or another.

Even in healthy, happy, awesome relationships, people still aren’t perfect! We get frustrated with each other just like we do with other people in our lives, and that isn’t always a bad thing.

In fact, it can actually be good for you! Psychotherapist Tina B. Tessina told YourTango in June of 2018 that “sharing with a supportive and discreet friend means we can 'normalize' the things that happen that we may be blowing out of proportion in our own minds.”

RELATED: The 8 Most Common Complaints Unhappy Husbands Have About Their Wives

A good friend can help us realize we’re overreacting to something normal, and remind us how to work it all out.

Sometimes we are wrong, and we need a friend to tell us to chill out about it!

Of course, this trick only works as long as you work things out with your partner as well. It’s no good to just complain to a friend, and then pretend nothing happened in the first place. Your partner won’t get the chance to change their behavior if they never know what the issue was to begin with.

It is polite to have these conversations somewhere we won’t be overheard, that way we can process our feelings freely without hurting feelings, and for many of us, that means taking the conversation to another room. When there’s a language barrier in play, however, you can get away with having a private conversation right in front of each other.

It is still a kind of privacy, at least, most of the time. Clearly that doesn’t always work out as planned!

Transfer Gossip: Liverpool want midfielder from 'Big Six' rival to form devastating Bellingham partnership - TEAMtalk

Liverpool have begun targeting a move for a big-name Chelsea star as they look to bring in a second midfielder alongside Jude Bellingham, Tottenham will have to fend off a new club for one of their attackers after the race for his signature got busy, while Friday’s Transfer Gossip claims West Ham are looking at a Ligue 1 forward.

LIVERPOOL PLOT CHELSEA RAID

Liverpool have taken a keen interest in Chelsea’s contract discussions with Mason Mount and will swoop in if the England star becomes available, according to a report.

Chelsea have been in talks with Mount and his entourage for some time now. On February 11, the Daily Mail revealed there to be a contract ‘impasse’ between the two parties. They are some way apart in terms of wages and this has left Chelsea pretty much ‘resigned’ to losing him in the near future. His current deal expires in summer 2024.

According to an update from ESPN, Liverpool are interested in signing Mount. They believe they can get him for a reduced price once he enters the final 12 months of his Blues contract.

ESPN write that there has been ‘little progress’ made between Chelsea and the 24-year-old. This is not just down to wages, as Mount also has concerns about penning an incredibly long deal at Stamford Bridge. This is something which has become customary under the ownership of Todd Boehly.

Liverpool’s problems in midfield are well documented, and Mount might be one of the players to arrive at Anfield as a solution. Jurgen Klopp could end up having a devastating midfield at his disposal as the Reds are also leading the charge for Jude Bellingham of Borussia Dortmund. Liverpool are thought to be Bellingham’s preferred next club, despite interest from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Chelsea.

Mount has not been at his best this season. After registering 13 goals and 16 assists last season, he has only managed three goals and six assists in 30 matches this term. It seems he is struggling to deal with the plethora of new signings that have joined Graham Potter’s squad.

Nevertheless, Klopp will have confidence he can get Mount back to his best, helping him to become one of the top attacking midfielders in the Premier League once again. And this will become far more likely if the Chelsea academy graduate is partnered with Bellingham in midfield. After all, despite being just 19, Bellingham is already a leader in the dressing room who can inspire other players. Plus, Mount and Bellingham know each other well from their time in the England setup.

Liverpool will not have it all their own way when it comes to signing Mount, however. ESPN state that competition will arrive from fellow Premier League giants City and Man Utd. Both of those clubs are ‘monitoring’ Mount’s situation as well, setting up a potential three-club transfer battle.

Amid all of this, Chelsea officials are working hard to tie Mount down. Losing him would be an embarrassment, especially if he went on to join another English club. But currently there is some distance between what Chelsea are offering and what the star is happy to sign.

PSG BECOME LATEST CLUB TO HUNT TOTTENHAM MAN

Real Madrid are not the only European heavyweight taking an interest in Tottenham forward Richarlison, with reports now claiming Paris Saint-Germain have joined the pursuit.

Tottenham spent an initial £50million, plus £10m in potential add-ons, to sign Richarlison from Everton in July last year. The Brazilian arrived at the club to compete with Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski for a spot in attack.

He has not been a roaring success, with only two goals coming in 20 matches. But Richarlison’s form has been hampered by injuries, while it was always going to be tough to replace one of Antonio Conte’s front three.

Now he is back fit, Richarlison is expected to play an important role in the run-in for Spurs as they look to make the Prem’s top four and go far in their remaining cup competitions. They are the FA Cup and Champions League.

However, there is now the prospect of Richarlison leaving north London once the season ends. On Monday, it emerged that Real are aiming to land the 25-year-old to bolster their attacking options.

And The Hard Tackle, who cite reports coming out of Spain, claim PSG have also begun chasing Richarlison.

The French giants are worried about Neymar potentially leaving. As such, they have landed on Richarlison as a potential replacement.

This is not the first time PSG have hunted Richarlison. Before Kylian Mbappe signed his new PSG contract in May 2022, PSG officials looked at Richarlison as a possible successor up front.

They are now back on the chase for him and could enter negotiations with Spurs in the next few months.

Despite interest from Real and PSG, it is hard to see Richarlison leaving Spurs this summer. Chairman Daniel Levy has only just spent upwards of £50m on him, so he will want to keep the striker on his books for a few more years before allowing an exit to happen.

In addition, Richarlison’s disappointing form means Real and PSG are unlikely to bid £50-60m for him. And with Levy known to be a tough negotiator, he will never sell Richarlison at a loss just one year on from his arrival.

WEST HAM TUSSLE WITH SOUTHAMPTON OVER GOALSCORER

West Ham are rivalling Southampton for the signing of OGC Nice centre-forward Terem Moffi, according to a report.

Moffi is enjoying a great season in Ligue 1, having bagged 12 goals in 20 appearances thus far. That includes strikes during matches against Monaco and Marseille last month.

The 23-year-old is on loan at Nice from FC Lorient. And Nice have the obligation to make the deal permanent for €22.5m (£20m) this summer, according to transfermarkt.

But Moffi’s time at Nice could be short-lived amid claims Premier League clubs are lining up to capture him.

Football Insider believe West Ham and Southampton are both interested in snapping Moffi up during the summer transfer window.

The two clubs will wait until his switch to Nice is made permanent before making their move.

West Ham and Southampton had been looking at the Nigerian during the January window, only to lose out to Nice.

They remain in contact with his agent though and are getting positive feedback about the player moving to England.

The report does not reveal exactly how much West Ham or Southampton would have to spend on Moffi. But Nice would probably want more than the £20m they are going to pay for him later this year.

And there could be a considerable rise in his price tag if his impressive form continues.

West Ham have only recently signed Gianluca Scamacca to compete with Michail Antonio for a place up front. However, Scamacca is yet to hit the heights expected of him. Antonio, meanwhile, is 32 years of age. As such, the Hammers could probably do with landing a younger replacement.

Southampton have struggled in front of goal this campaign. They have only scored 18 times in 22 league outings, which is one of the reasons why they are at the foot of the table.

This explains why they want a reliable goalscorer such as Moffi. Although, the Saints will have to drag themselves out of the bottom three if Moffi is to join. He will not want to transfer from Ligue 1 to the Championship when his career is on the up.

Stefan Simchowitz May No Longer Be Hated by the LA Art Scene, Kanye West Shows Up Uninvited at a Frieze Party, and More Juicy Art World Gossip - artnet News

Every week, Artnet News brings you Wet Paint, a gossip column of original scoops. If you have a tip, email Annie Armstrong at [email protected].

THE ART WORLD’S PATRON SATAN, REDEEMED?

It seems that most people who flew from New York to the City of Angels this week for Frieze watched The Art of Making It on the plane. The documentary, made by the producers of The Price of Everything, purports to capture “a diverse group of compelling young artists on the brink of unimaginable success or failure as they challenge systems, break barriers, and risk it all with the goal of making it in an industry where all the rules are currently being rewritten.”

Like most of these movies about the art world, it chooses its heroes and villains with biases so overt it’d give Werner Herzog a run for his money. This time around, the heroes were SPRING/BREAK co-founders Ambre and Andrew Gori, Jerry Gogosian memester Hilde Lynn Helphenstein, artists Jenna Gribbon, Charles Gaines, and Chris Watts, and *checks notes* Anton Kern. The villains were, naturally, my colleague Kenny Schachter, mega-galleries at large, and the most obvious art world villain of them all, Stefan Simchowitz, who, if you’ll recall, was infamously dubbed the “art world’s patron satan” by T Magazine in 2014.

The film opens with our beloved Simco stepping into the Felix Art Fair in 2019. Filmed with a forced perspective akin to the attack sequence in Jaws, the art world’s patron satan approaches all of the mid-tier gallerists and takes their photo. (“How do I look?” asks Ellie Rines in a widely circulated screengrab. “Beautiful as always,” he responds.)

I couldn’t help but think about that scene when I saw Simco at Felix this year, still toting his camera, still turning heads. While he may have had a villainous aura a few years ago, word on the street is that in the year 2023 he’s regarded as more of an antihero elder statesman than the snake-in-the-grass of yore

Indeed, just a few months ago, I was reporting a story that referenced one of the scurrilous tales from the profile that gave him his nickname. An exceedingly vexed Simchowitz called me nearly out of breathe, confessing to how exasperated he is of having the reputation that he does, and defending his very genuine love of art by finding unique ways to support struggling artists’s practices. The shake in his voice and the litany of examples he gave inclined me to at least give him the benefit of the doubt, to think that maybe he had changed his ways.

One prominent art advisor confirmed my suspicion, telling me that Simchowitz’s fangs have been filed over the past few years, saying, “Oh, I mean he’s kind of harmless now. Would I do business with him? Probably not. But I don’t think he’s a bad guy.”

Over at A Hug From The Art World’s buzzed-about booth with Jeffrey Dalessandro’s action figures of art world luminaries, Adam Cohen joked that many of the dolls were bought by the people they portray, but said that others “may end up being used as voodoo dolls.” Simco was, of course, a subject in his signature tan rawhide hat, and I wondered aloud if his might be one that people would want to subject to some black magic. But, no, Cohen confirmed to me that the doll was actually a gift to Simchowitz from years ago from Dalessandro, and Cohen was quick to jump on the Simco defense train. “Who’s more honest than Stefan? And he’s not really bad, especially when you get him to not take himself so seriously.” In fact, Cohen is showing two of the artists Simco represents at his space in New York this spring: Brandon Deener and Shana McCoy.

One collector, who the day before had bragged to me about flipping a painting by a young painter of surrealist abstraction for a 6,328 percent uptick, told me, “He’s a complicated guy. He’s not a straightforward flipper—he believes in buying art to allow [struggling artists] to continue making art.” From a car on his way over to Frieze‘s VIP opening, the collector added, “He does still buy a lot of art, but less than he used to like he did with Amoako Boafo or a lot of other artists. I don’t think he’s doing as much of that now. Some people think he’s doing God’s work, others think he’s the devil in disguise. I’m not going to pass judgement.”

All of this is well and good until you talk to an unrepresented artist who has recently sold work to Simco. And that I did. Under a request of anonymity, a painter who sold directly to him in the past few months told Wet Paint, “I feel good about selling to him because it was only one painting. It was a pretty professional interaction and his gallery director called me to learn more about myself which was really pleasant.” (It is unusual that Simco buys only one piece, as he’s been known to buy out the entire stock from an artist’s studio and either pump it directly into the auction circuit—a particularly blunt form of flipping—or rent it out through his eponymous company.)

This artist elaborated, “I still wouldn’t feel comfortable to sell too much work to him, but it was a pleasant experience. I did feel a bit like a drop in the bucket when I heard he has another company where he rents out work from his collection. But he seemed to have a genuine interest in my work and still does, which I appreciate, regardless of his intentions.”

KANYE WEST RETURNS, UNINVITED, TO THE ART PARTY CIRCUIT

On the topic of personae non gratae, there was a very unexpected celebrity spotting at an art world party during Los Angeles Frieze week. This Wednesday—an evening that was almost implausibly jam-packed with events—I received the following (harrowing) text:

That’s right, a man once beloved by the art world (or at least by a handful of artists like George Condo, Vanessa Beecroft, Arthur Jafa, and Takashi Murakami, all of whom collaborated with him during his heyday) rocked on up to the Hollywood Edition this week during Fairchain’s cocktail party (I thought this company was supposed to be ‘deliberately unsexy’?), and I was not present to witness it.

Those I spoke to at the party weren’t surprised to see the disgraced rapper out and about, however. According to the co-founders of Fairchain, Max Kendrick and Charlie Jarvis, the event was star-studded before Ye dropped by, with Mickalene Thomas and Alfre Woodard hobnobbing over some Moët, and that Kanye and his posse just “came in and said they were here for the event,” according to Kendrick, who added, “I don’t know how he got there. It was cool but also the anti-semitism stuff is real. Idk…” Jarvis added “The guests were unfazed,” joking that “it felt normal given the history of Fairchain parties.”

Kanye West at the Hollywood Edition for Fairchain’s cocktail party. Photo courtesy of a tipster.

It would make sense that the art world would be unfazed by Kanye’s presence, if only because it’s notable that after basically self-destructing his career—and probably deep-sixing what would have been his almost definite appointment at Virgil Abloh’s successor at Louis Vuitton—by speaking admiringly of Hitler and burning bridges with basically everyone except the alt right, none of the artists he’s collaborated with have stepped forward to condemn the anti-semitic, racist, and generally horrific remarks he’s made over the past few months. (Years ago, I remember asking Takashi Murakami about his relationship with Kanye after a lesser PR disaster struck. He told me that knowing Kanye is like feeling loyal to your high school sweetheart you fall for again and again—they break your heart over and over again, but you can’t stay away.)

Upon further snooping, guests at the cocktail party revealed that they overheard Kanye—who was there with his rumored new wife, Bianca Censori—talking about horse racing and, actually, about Fairchain. (The specifics of what he said could not be gathered.) Maybe his next gobsmacking reinvention will be as an advocate for the rights of artists on the secondary market? It’s better than Nazism, that’s for sure.

WE HEAR

The new generation of Wet Paint hats have been released via Kiko Kostadinov‘s brand Otto958, and you can pick one up here … Keith McNally is publishing his memoir this coming November, with a title as ornery as he is, I Regret Almost Everything… That the word around Los Angeles this week is that Frieze Week is so crammed with actual fun art activity that it feels like the good ol’ days of Art Basel Miami Beach before the crypto hordes descended and ruined all the parties… Remember the renegade prankster who stink-bombed the Whitney Biennial party last year? Apparently they struck again at a Nike party during fashion week… Swiss gallery Gowen recently hosted a buzzy group show curated by advisor Rachel Cole, with work by Genieve Figgis, Jesse Mockrin, Flora Yukhnovich, Louise Giovanelli, and Ewa Juskiewicz—but would-be buyers weren’t thrilled to find out that the works were not for sale but were rather loans of pieces she placed years ago with her collectors, most notably Rahul M. Sabhnani… O’Flaherty’s is back, thank goodness, opening with a show (or an “O’Flattering,” as they’re terming it) by the legendary performance-based collective Gelatin… While the rest of the world is panicked over the price of eggs, New York gallery directors mewled about being sent to LA via JetBlue… A “high-profile art world family” is looking to pay someone $65,000 to $95,000 a year for various services including managing “dog systems,” organizing “closet systems,” and writing thank-you notes…

SPOTTED

Hans Ulrich-Obrist was wearing a notably tiny backpack at Hauser & Wirth’s opening for George Condo *** The two best fashion week parties I went to were Eckhaus Latta’s art-star studded afterparty at Jean’s, where Aria Dean, Jeanette Hayes, Coco Gordon-Moore, and Sarah Nicole Prickett danced into the wee hours, and the dinner for Helmut Lang’s collaboration with Antwaun Sargent and Hannah Traore, which hosted Cameron Welch, American Artist, and JiaJia Fei ***  Charles Gaines, Jason Rubell, and Haley Mellin hitting the courts at Artadia’s very elite and competitive annual tennis match (Ellie Rines was in the audience taking bets, naturally) *** Henry Taylor, Anton Kern, Lisa Edelstein, and Lake Bell on the roof of the Beverly Hills Maybourne to fête Joel Mesler‘s new show “Hopes & Dreams” with A Hug From the Art World (the next day, Mesler and AHFTAW founder Adam Cohen were posted up in the lobby doling out free hugs) *** The ladies of the lesbian backgammon mafia noodling over who can buy Andre Leon Talley’s Prada backgammon board from his Christie’s auction *** A few days after Harmony Korine announced he’d be represented by both Hauser & Wirth and Gagosian, he collaborated with another major entity, Kim Kardashian, on a Spring Breakers-themed campaign for Skims ***

WET PAINT QUESTIONNAIRE

Last week I took off from the questionnaire to invite my dear and darling readers to my party in Los Angeles this week, and what a night we had! Which prompts me to ask: Who in the art world is the best dancer? Email your response to [email protected]
