“It was very clear from the beginning that we wanted to editorialise television and give it this high-fashion, international flair.” So said Eric Daman, the costume designer behind the vampy update of the Gossip Girl reboot. The New Yorker – who masterminded the show’s original wardrobe – was tasked with modernising the notoriously preppy dress codes of the fashionable Upper East Siders which, by the looks of BTS paparazzi shots currently circulating, he has achieved with inimitable Gen-Z flair.

Despite the fact only three weeks of public filming have taken place, fans have already been treated to a generous glimpse of the new cast, costumes and Big Apple hang-outs. The famed Met Museum staircase – which served as a popular meeting place for Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen in the OG episodes – is still a favoured “see and be seen” spot for the youthful Manhattanites. And taking centre stage? Their finest leather goods.

You’ll have to wait until 2021 for the new HBO series to air, but in the meantime, a wealth of cult bags, both vintage and new, will quench the thirst of fashion-forward GG devotees. Serena’s slouchy boho totes and Blair’s ladylike top-handles have been traded for a range of purses with serious caché.

Deep breath: a monogrammed Louis Vuitton Papillon duffle, multiple Bulgari Serpenti Forever crossbodys, a Saint Laurent Uptown clutch, a Gucci 1955 GG-jacquard horsebit tote, a Prada Nylon pouch, a Fendi Baguette, a Cartier Guirlande, a moon mock-croc Rantan bag from JW Pei, sparkling styles from Judith Leiber and Jimmy Choo, plus a duo of Salvatore Ferragamo accessories – a canvas logo-print bag and the Studio top handle – have already been spotted on the arms of the actors.

Elsewhere on the accessories front, the Noughties uniforms of the fresh-faced Constance Billard high-schoolers have been sprinkled with hypebeast-approved collectables including Balenciaga’s coveted Triple S chunky trainers and Beyoncé Ivy Park x Adidas Superstar platforms. And more It girl staples – from mock-croc Schutz knee-high boots to daring PVC trousers and varsity jackets that Bella Hadid would be proud of – also feature in Daman’s refurbed 2020 take of the show.
